Dorchester Civic Society We exist to stimulate people’s interest in the town, its setting and to promote civic pride. What are our aims? We are independent and non-political.

We aim to involve people of all ages and backgrounds. We exist to stimulate people’s interest in the town and its setting, and promote civic pride. We encourage high standards of architecture, urban design and planning; and we work to preserve and enhance buildings and areas of historic interest and the town’s landscape setting. What do we do? We promote these aims by acting as a critical friend to our county, district and town councils and by collaborating with like-minded organisations. We monitor and constructively comment on planning applications. We contribute to the formulation of town planning and transport policy. We are involved in working groups and projects affecting the town. We organise talks and visits to other towns and places of interest. We are a member of Civic Voice, the national charity and campaign organisation for the civic movement in England.
