🩵⚽ FULL TIME | AARON TIDEY UNITED 6-5 ENLIGHTEN THE SHADOWS ⚽🩵
WE ARE BACK! AND BACK TO WINNING WAYS! 💪🩵
After a few months away from football, Aaron Tidey United finally returned to action today, and what a game it turned out to be! 😅
With a few players unavailable, we had to scrape a squad together, but the lads stepped up once again. Although, we certainly made life difficult for ourselves!
FIRST HALF ⚽
From the first whistle, you could tell we’d been away for a while. The usual fluent football, movement and togetherness just weren’t quite there. We looked rusty and struggled to find our rhythm.
However, it didn’t take long for us to get going.
⚽ 1-0 | T. Anderson (PEN)
Tremayne was brought down inside the box and stepped up to calmly slot home the penalty to give us the lead.
⚽ 2-0 | K. Ali (S.Nath assist)
Our skipper made a brilliant run forward before producing a fantastic first-time finish from a well placed pass by S.Nath.
⚽ 3-0 | J. Vella (J.Mirza assist)
Who else but Vella? Another composed finish in front of goal after some great work from J. Mirza.
⚽ 4-0 | K. Ali (J.Mirza assist)
Our skipper grabbed his second of the afternoon, calmly finding the bottom corner after another assist from J.Mirza.
HALF TIME: 4-0 🩵
Despite not being at our best, we were fully in control. Four goals up, a clean sheet and looking comfortable. Surely the game was done?
Well…
SECOND HALF ⚽
We came out looking like a completely different team, and unfortunately, not in a good way.
Enlighten The Shadows came out fighting and deservedly pulled one back. Then came a second, and before we knew it, a third!
4-3! GAME ON! 😳
Everything we’d done well in the first half seemed to disappear. We stopped playing our football, lost our shape and allowed the opposition right back into the game.
We needed someone to step up.
⚽ 5-3 | T. Anderson (J.Vella assist)
Finally, we started moving the ball again. Vella provided the assist and Tremayne finished brilliantly to grab his second of the game.
Surely that would settle us down?
Absolutely not! 😂
Enlighten The Shadows responded once again to make it 5-4, and suddenly the nerves were kicking in. Nobody wanted to make a mistake, and every attack felt dangerous.
⚽ 6-4 | T. Anderson
Into the 80th minute, Tremayne read the play brilliantly, intercepted the ball and calmly finished to complete his HAT-TRICK! 🎩⚽⚽⚽
Surely the goal that would put the game to bed? Nope, the visitors weren’t finished. With just minutes remaining, Enlighten grabbed another to make it 6-5!
The final few minutes were unbelievably tense. Both sides pushing, tired legs everywhere, and the result genuinely could have gone either way.
Thankfully, the lads dug deep, held on and got us over the line!
FULL TIME: AARON TIDEY UNITED 6-5 ENLIGHTEN THE SHADOWS 🩵
👏 A massive well done to every single player today. We know we weren’t at our best, and there’s plenty we need to improve on, but after months away, getting back together and finding a way to win is something to build on.
A special mention to T. Anderson for his hat-trick, our skipper K. Ali for his brace, J. Vella for another goal and assist, and J. Mirza for two assists.
🤝 A huge thank you to Enlighten The Shadows. Once again, you’ve been a brilliant team to play against. You never gave up, fought your way back into the game and made us work for absolutely everything. Nothing but respect for you all!
❤️ Most importantly, today’s match was about more than football. We came together to support little Aaryan and his family during an incredibly difficult time.
Thank you to everyone who played, supported, donated or helped make today possible.
