Once again there has been a lovely buzz of activity behind the Village Hall this week as well dressers have got to work. The West Hallam WI team have created a really beautiful Well Dressing for this year’s event on July 11th. Designed by Alison Molineux, with the help of Jenny Hall and many of the WI members, it celebrates the work of Beatrix Potter.
Village gardens have been raided for petals, leaves and moss, but see if you can also spot lavender, onion skins, grasses, straw, seedheads and even banana skins.
Peter Rabbit’s been busy raiding too – check out his carrots and radishes. See him beside the Village Hall on the Scarecrow Trail.

It's July, it's West Hallam, it's nearly the Summer Holidays, so it must be .... The Well Dressings!!

A good evening at WI with Ailsa Hunt, telling the story of her remarkable, determined Grandpa, Arthur Denley, who overcame a terrible misfortune at only 21 when he contracted polio. He went on to have his own adventures on his motorised trike, including travelling into the Alps. Then he spent his life pioneering the development of cars for disabled people and their families, giving them real independence and this led to the founding of the organisation Mobilise, of which he was president.

Really entertaining and useful evening at West Hallam WI. Cam from Community 1st Volunteers gave an excellent talk on emergency care and demonstrated CPR and use of a defibrillator.
He was very good at answering all our questions and is keen to do talks to other local groups young and old.
