We are very grateful to Caroline Voaden MP for raising LandWorks in the House of Commons this week - as a model for how we can stop the cycle of offending and reoffending and address the current prisons crisis. We hope we can welcome the new Prisons Minister to LandWorks soon!

'Elmer the Elephant turned out to be a bit of a star, causing a great deal of interest at our recent Supporters’ event.

In the weeks running up to this, Elmer created a wonderful sense of coming together, with everyone at LandWorks becoming involved in restoring and painting this 8-foot-high wooden Indian elephant (kindly donated to us last year).'

Solving our prisoner overcrowding crisis hinges on turning around reoffending rates.

Currently, 37% of released prisoners reoffend within a year. And according to prison governors, those let out under the 2024 early release scheme are returning to prison at an alarming rate.

If we don’t break the cycle of reoffending, the capacity crisis will never ease.

Instead, the government will continue shelling out millions on extra prison places, while at the same time we eke towards 100% capacity.

In South Devon, we have a fantastic rehabilitation programme called LandWorks, which provides a blueprint for the government to follow.

Its reoffending rate is just 5%, with over 90% of participants going on to attain employment.

Considering reoffending costs the country £18bn a year, the impact of rolling out the type of work conducted by LandWorks nationwide could be transformational.

A lovely evening in support of LandWorks.

We’ve incredibly grateful to Stoke Gabriel Horticultural Society for choosing LandWorks as their charity for 2026.

The proceeds from the Sandridge Barton Talk and Wine Tasting Evening next week, will continue to support us and the work we do.

Tonight’s the night: Sandridge Barton Talk & Wine Tasting Evening - 25th August 7pm at SG Village Hall 🥂💚
Hosted by Stoke Gabriel Horticultural Society we will be joined by Duncan Schwab who is the CEO and Wine Director of Sandridge Barton who will give us a Talk & answer questions on the history of growing vines, grapes and producing wine in our local area.
There will also be the opportunity to do some wine tasting too 😃
Doors open at 6.45pm and entry fee is £5 for non members and £3 for members - places are limited so do arrive early to avoid disappointment.
All profits from this Talk will go to our chosen charity for 2026 which is Landworks 🙏
We look forward to seeing you there 🙂 x

As we look ahead to our Supporters’ Day on 21st August, we wanted to take a moment to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported our regular giving campaign.

Regular donations give us reliable income and the stability to plan ahead, support more people and build lasting change.

Whether you’ve signed up as a regular donor – or made a one-off donation, shared our posts, or simply helped spread the word — thank you. Every contribution makes a real difference.

If you haven’t yet joined us as a regular giver but would like to, there’s of course still time to make a difference — you can do it online (or we can help in person at Supporters’ Day).
