Woodlab

Woodlab A Woodhub based in the woods of South Devon. A co-working space with benches to hire and use of professional equipment, machines, power and hand tools.

Open to members + casual users. Part of the Woodland Presents CIC Woodlab is managed by a small team of professional woodfolk (complete with phenomenal skills and excruciating good looks). It may seem like we’ve been wandering around forests for too long, but don’t be fooled. Underneath our plaid exterior lies 45 years of combined experience in forest economics, deep ecology, regenerative forestry

, joinery and design. Amongst the many other maker-spaces, our approach means we can see the wood for the trees. The whole team believe timber is first and foremost part of a wider natural system which must be kept in balance. We believe trees are not handy freebies for indiscriminate human consumption. They are homes, centres of biodiversity, and essential for natural carbon sequestration. Using the best tools without having to buy them is a no-brainer right?? Well, there are some slick things at Woodlab to help you. This constantly evolving range is here to enable you to make stuff better, quicker and cheaper. There’s always someone to lend a hand or offer some advice on a build. You can also find out whether you actually need to buy the new shiny thing yourself by trying it with us first. We welcome the causal user but offer discounted rates to Woodlab Members, as well as courses, up-skilling, talks and lectures, demonstrations and the opportunity to become part of a growing maker network. Woodlab is part of The Woodland Presents CIC, basically we are responding to the needs of British woodlands, and the communities around them.

Tree Radicals also explores all these issues through our Podcast series. Same house, same tree, same design language.
Nothing off the shelf would fit this space. Like a lot of spaces one needs a vanity, it was a real challenge to make it work. The finger-pull echoes the frame profile — details most people won't notice, but we do.
Currently booking late 2026 installations. Message us to talk about your project before we book up.

Our clients wanted everything open. No doors, no hiding. Just timber and the things you use.
Made from one spalted Ash tree, felled two miles from the workshop.
Taking bookings for last projects in late 2026 now.
Let us know if you're planning something wonderful.
