🥾 They smashed it!

This weekend, an amazing team - Sue, Luke, Tracy, Jane and Cournell - took on the 25km South Coast Ultra Challenge for Good Company, including the infamous Seven Sisters, and raised over £4,000!

Everyone started the day in high spirits, really gelled as a team and were blessed with glorious weather.
Apparently, the Seven Sisters were every bit as tough as their reputation. A few of the team admitted they may have underestimated the challenge because it was “only a walk”. We suspect they won’t be saying that again!

What made it particularly special was that almost everyone taking part had been close to someone living with a dementia, so there was a very personal reason for taking on those hills for The Good Company People

And they smashed the fundraising target too! The fundraising page is still open, so if you haven’t sponsored them yet, there’s still time.

Despite the fun and games of last week, we will definitely be open on Monday! Thank you once again for all of your support CooperBurnett.

This International Day of Charity, we are giving a shout-out to our current charity of choice, The Good Company People. Based in Crowborough, it is a dementia-welcoming community organisation offering practical help, friendly groups and one-to-one support for people growing older. The charity believes 'ageing should still mean growing together'.​

Whether you want to try something new, meet others who understand, or simply talk about what might help - support starts with a conversation.

What a difference a community makes 💛

Our week began with a small flood at Good Company HQ but it has been completely transformed by the extraordinary kindness of people around us. Thanks to Crowborough News for rallying our community.

We are eternally grateful to Coppard, who came to our rescue with specialist machinery, including a dehumidifier and a very clever machine that collected all the gravels

We are equally indebted to Louis and Mike from Crowborough Men’s Shed, who lent us a vacuum that sucks up water - something we didn’t even know existed! They then gave up their Thursday evening to operate the machinery and clear away the gravel!

Finally, a very special thank you to Lucy’s dad, Chris Buck, who cleaned out all the gutters to tackle the cause of the problem.

Thanks to our amazing community, HQ is dry, the gravel has gone and, when the rain comes again, we should be ready for it.

Come and join us for a friendly charity cricket match in support of The Good Company People at Rotherfield Cricket Club. Enjoy a great afternoon with cricket, cakes, refreshments, and community spirit while helping raise funds for a good cause.

If you would like to take part in the match, please let us know, though this is completely optional - you’re very welcome just to come along and watch!

We launched our new Monday Walk and Talk group today. We are meeting each Monday from 10.30 at Goldsmiths recreation ground. We kept the walk short due to the heat but managed to find shade for a drink and chat. It was a great first session.

Our Saturday social was held at Birchden Vineyards this week. A huge thank you to Sean, Jo and all of the team there who made us feel so welcome. We had a talk and tour of the vines before sampling some of the delicious wine with the charcuterie boards. Our members and volunteers enjoyed a relaxing, social afternoon. The vineyard is in a beautiful setting and a great spot for a coffee and crepe too!

We would like to say a huge Thank You to Sue Burnett and her friends for organising an Open garden for us at the weekend. Sue had worked tirelessly to get her garden looking it's best and organise such a great afternoon. Thank you to everyone that baked, supervised the car parking, asked for raffle prizes, played in the band, poured the Pimms, served the cake and washed up. It means so much to us when we see the local community support in action. Over £2000 was raised and we are very grateful.

Thank you very much to the Singing For Fun choir in Crowborough for choosing us as their charity this year.
This week, they organised a brilliant evening of singing and piano which raised over a £1000 for us. Thank you to everyone that sang in the choir and ran the raffle. Thank you also to Fermor Primary School for sending your choir along for a couple of songs. It was a great community event. Singing for Fun are kindly organising a Christmas concert for us on December 7th.
