Sometimes you just can't find the right piece of furniture to fit the space.
That was certainly the case for Norman who looked for a bedside table of a certain size -so he did what all good Shedders do, put pencil ✏️ to paper and saw to wood and made a bespoke table to fit the required space 😉.
As you can see he's made something rather special- not only does it fit as designed but being made of solid Oak it'll last a lifetime, or two........
Brilliant job Norman 👏.

Its not all woodwork and crafts at the Shed.
The Crewkerne and District Skittles Championship was recently held at The Muddled Man, well we say championship, maybe more of a fun night out for most of us 😃😄, but there was certainly an element of competition with some really good skittelers showing off their talents
Suzie won the first round of "killer" knocking out all the competition and picked up the wonderful Trophy made and presented by Charmaine. 🪘
Mick won the second round leaving the rest of us floundering.
Many thanks to the Muddled Man for putting on a sumptuous buffet, disrupted only by government sending out mobile phone warnings about wildfires, presumably they were confused by Suzie and Mick virtually setting the skittle alley "on fire" with their blistering performance.

What does one do when you learn you're going to be a proud Grandfather? 😀 Well if you're a shedder you get the saws and chisels out and start making something. But what ????? 🤔🤔. Of course there's any number of toys or useful things that a young child needs but as an ambitious woodworker and with a little notice before the happy event there's time to make something a bit special.
This rocking horse chair is based on a Victorian style rocker.
Using a design from the Rocking Horse Shop but instead of solid timber a cost effective alternative of plywood was used for the seat, rockers and head. This also gives a wonderful visual texture and brings the head to life. The spindles were turned out of oak as were the handles and foot pegs. The brindle was made from repurposed bicycle basket straps.

When it comes to artistic flair Erika certainly shines .
This wonderful serving board really shows off her talents. Using Yew wood combined with sparkling blue resin makes a truly spectacular piece. From selecting the right pieces of wood to polishing the final board Erika's really mastered every aspect of making a serving board to be proud off . 😀

Busy times at the Shed.
Chris has been busy as usual making more Birdhouses 🐥.
He uses reclaimed wood which would otherwise end up in a bonfire or even worse in a landfill - instead he works hard ensuring the birds in Somerset have somewhere to call home when the warmer month end (will they ever) and shelter becomes important.
Great job Chris, the birds will certainly appreciate it, but maybe not for a month or two.

A little while ago we showed how the Ladies at the Shed were turning some lovely bowls on the lathe.
Well the Boys have stepped up to the challenge. Richard turned this truly spectacular bowl from English Walnut . What makes this special is the wood's from a felled tree locally.
Richard took some of the timber and after 3 years its nicely seasoned and ready for turning.
Mike used some of the Walnut to make a nice pot, adding a contrasting lid from America black Walnut - its not only beautiful but functional.
So the gauntlets down ladies 😄, lets see what you're going to turn next .....................

Like all good woodworkers Jonathan knows the key to good results is taking care of your tools, unfortunately some of the manufacturers tool boxes supplied with power tools leave a little to be desired as Jonathan found out 😒.
The solution was to make his own custom tool chest.
Made from hardwood ply with box joints and compartments for drill, impact driver, batteries charger and accessories. It needs a final coat of paint and Jonathans tools will be safe again.

Mirror Mirror on the wall......"no prizes for the answer.
They say beauty is in the eyes of the beholder but there's no doubt this lovely young lady knows she is a stunner.
The Mirror was donated to the Shed in need of a little TLC . Chris did any repairs and painted it in weather proof sea side colours and it now brightens up a spot in the garden, as well as pampering to someone's ego....
Great job Chris, recycling at it's best .
