Jonathon brought in this wonderful ships light. Made from solid brass it's likely to be late Victorian or early Edwardian.
Originally oil lit it has however been converted to electric,
however the heavy light sat on the cable. The solution was to make a plinth with a recess for the cable.
Jonathon gave us a design brief for this - which we hope we succeeded in achieving.
Made from Tiger wood the brilliant grain helps to show off this fantastic light in all its glory

Here we have Helen's Plateau de Fromages,
call it a cheeseboard but that really doesn't do it justice.
Helen rescued this rather Characterful piece of oak - filling the voids with green resin. She then used the router to form an inset to fit a marble inset.
So we think its fair to say this is no ordinary cheese board. ☺️
So whether it's tangy Roquefort, smooth Camembert or good old proper Cheddar - its bound to taste better when served on Helen's Plateau de Fromages .😀

This is a well travelled Clock, over the years it had travelled far and wide, unfortunately the mechanism had failed. Alison brought it into the Shed and e fitted a new mechanism and in no time at all we had it ticking away 😁😃.
Needless to say Ali was happy to see her beloved clock working again.

Linda brought in a lovely little antique table which had unfortunately not only seen better days but had had the misfortune to have a heavy beam fall on it.
Whilst it seemed to be a rather hopeless case she nevertheless thought worth seeing if The Shed could repair it😒.
Mick got to work removing the broken parts and remaking them, stained them to match the original and finished the top with a French polish. Whilst maybe not quite as good as new it will live to see a few more years of service. 😀
Needless to say Linda was pleased to see her beloved table back in one piece.

While the cats away🐱 🦊 ..........
While these little mice might not be up for playing they certainly
are cute especially sitting atop of the little Cheese boards .
Pete's done an amazing job of making the Cheese boards as well as the hungry little Mice .
He made them from an offcut of an Oak kitchen counter top making it all the more special. And we can confirm that no mice were hurt making these lovely little creatures. 🐁🐁😄

Whilst dogs are welcome into the Shed, it's not much fun for them so we decided it was time to repay their patience and loyalty whilst we work on our projects. So what better than to have a doggie fun afternoon 😊.
Pawsome Fun Paddock was the ideal location for the dog's to let off steam. As well as running around and having Fun there was the (not so ) serious business of Prizes for the best dog's 😀- of course they are All the Best.
However Prizes were awarded to Kingsley (Golden Retriever) for the most mischievous (not a difficult decision).!! The prize for the most energetic went to Bob (Black Labrador) again an easy choice. Prettiest dog went to Holly (Flatcoated Retriever) however Mama Sausage came a close 2nd being an absolute cuties 😍 - no prizes for guessing her breed ..........

Sometimes you just can't find the right piece of furniture to fit the space.
That was certainly the case for Norman who looked for a bedside table of a certain size -so he did what all good Shedders do, put pencil ✏️ to paper and saw to wood and made a bespoke table to fit the required space 😉.
As you can see he's made something rather special- not only does it fit as designed but being made of solid Oak it'll last a lifetime, or two........

Its not all woodwork and crafts at the Shed.
The Crewkerne and District Skittles Championship was recently held at The Muddled Man, well we say championship, maybe more of a fun night out for most of us 😃😄, but there was certainly an element of competition with some really good skittelers showing off their talents
Suzie won the first round of "killer" knocking out all the competition and picked up the wonderful Trophy made and presented by Charmaine. 🪘
Mick won the second round leaving the rest of us floundering.
Many thanks to the Muddled Man for putting on a sumptuous buffet, disrupted only by government sending out mobile phone warnings about wildfires, presumably they were confused by Suzie and Mick virtually setting the skittle alley "on fire" with their blistering performance.

What does one do when you learn you're going to be a proud Grandfather? 😀 Well if you're a shedder you get the saws and chisels out and start making something. But what ????? 🤔🤔. Of course there's any number of toys or useful things that a young child needs but as an ambitious woodworker and with a little notice before the happy event there's time to make something a bit special.
This rocking horse chair is based on a Victorian style rocker.
Using a design from the Rocking Horse Shop but instead of solid timber a cost effective alternative of plywood was used for the seat, rockers and head. This also gives a wonderful visual texture and brings the head to life. The spindles were turned out of oak as were the handles and foot pegs. The brindle was made from repurposed bicycle basket straps.
