Directions

We are an environmental volunteering group based in South Cheshire, who undertake practical conservation tasks every other Sunday Who are we? What do we do?

We are Crewe & Nantwich Conservation Volunteers. CNCV is a collection of earth-loving, like-minded people from different walks of life that meet fortnightly on alternate Sundays to complete practical conservation tasks. CNCV is affiliated to The Conservation Volunteers (Formerly the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers). CNCV works in nature reserves and on sites of biological importance. Recent tasks have included; coppicing, pond-clearing, woodland management and counting dormice. We have attempted to conserve endangered species by building otter holts and installing dormouse nesting boxes. We generally have a good time, during which we consume lots of tea and biscuits.

On the last task there were 13 volunteers in total, the weather was good. On Sunday 18/10 we are at Wybunbury Moss NNR doing some more scrub clearance. New volunteers always welcome.

30/09/2026

On Sunday 4/10 we will be doing pond maintenance at Sound Common near Wrenbury. Then on 18/10 we will be at Wybunbury Moss for some scrub clearance.

Our last task was next to the Salt Line near Alsager, removing Himayan Balsam. On Sunday 16th August we will be working next to two ponds at Sound Common.

On Sunday 19th July we will be at Wybunbury Moss to remove Himalayan Balsam from an open area. Yesterday there were a lot of painted lady butterflies there.

In March 2022 we planted up an area at Alsager Borrowpit meadows. Most trees survived several very dry springs, the willows shown are more than 2 metres tall and wide (May 2026).

24/05/2026

May 24th at Quakers Coppice we pulled out a large amount of Himalayan Balsam next to a pond. Luckily there was plenty of shade, 28C would have been too much in the sun. We saw an occupied Greater Spotted Woodpecker nest high up in a tree. Our next task should be 7th June at Oakmere.

08/03/2026

On March 1st we returned to Quakers Coppice in Crewe for the first time for 20 years. We planted some trees such as crab apple and hawthorn. Also coppiced some hazel that we planted in the 1980s.
We will be there on March 15th mainly working on the ponds.

12/02/2026

On Feb 1st we were at Sound Common removing Alder seedlings from a new wet area. The pond behind the trees was larger than usual. On 15th we will be back at Wybunbury Moss national nature reserve.

11/01/2026

Collecting the tools after a task using some silver birch branches for a path on Wybunbury Moss. We finished at 2:30 when the snow was coming down fast on 4th Jan. We will be back there on 18th Jan.

On the first Sunday in December we were planting trees at Brereton Heath Country Park. More of the same on 21st December.
