Volunteers' Week Spotlight – Meet Alicia 🌟

This Volunteers' Week, we're celebrating the amazing people who give their time to support our community. Today, we'd like to introduce Alicia, one of our newer volunteers at Chance.

When asked why she decided to volunteer, Alicia said:

"I was interested in volunteering because I wanted to connect with people in my community and contribute in a meaningful way. What I've found is that Chance does exactly that – it's a really welcoming space where people can come in, have a chat, feel supported, and browse a range of food and goods without judgement."

Alicia has quickly become a valued member of the team and says one of the best parts of volunteering is the people she works alongside:

"The team at the community pantry is such a lovely group of people, and they've really helped me settle into my role. Everyone is kind, friendly, and in between working hard, we have a laugh and support each other."

Thank you, Alicia, for your enthusiasm, kindness, and commitment to helping others. We're so grateful to have you as part of the Chance family. 💚

Today we want to say a huge thank you to Linda!

Linda has been volunteering with us for 3 years and has been an amazing support to the pantry team. She has shown real commitment and dedication, especially by taking the lead with our deliveries and helping ensure support reaches those who need it most.

Thank you, Linda, for all your hard work, kindness, and continued support. Your time and dedication make such a difference to our community, and we truly appreciate everything you do.

This week, we’re celebrating the amazing people who give their time to support Chance Changing Lives and our community pantry.

First up is our wonderful volunteer Sue!

Sue has been volunteering with Chance Changing Lives for over 5 years and has been an incredible lead with our assessments, always offering support, kindness, and a friendly face to everyone she meets.

And of course… we can’t forget Sue’s biscuits! We always love to see Sue arrive at the pantry, specially with her bag of biscuits!

Thank you, Sue, for your commitment, dedication, and all the time you give to helping others. We truly appreciate everything you do and we’re so lucky to have you as part of the Chance family.

As we head into Volunteers’ Week this June, we want to take a moment to recognise and celebrate the incredible people who give their time, energy and compassion to support our community.

Volunteers are at the heart of the third sector. They are the friendly faces, helping hands and listening ears that make such a difference every single day. Without volunteers, so many community services and organisations simply could not continue the vital work they do.

From January to April this year alone, our amazing volunteers have contributed an incredible 1,272 hours to supporting the pantry and the people who rely on it. That is 1,272 hours of kindness, dedication, teamwork and community spirit.

At Chance, we truly value every single volunteer and the commitment they show week after week. Their support not only helps keep the pantry running, but also helps create a welcoming and supportive environment for our community.

To all of our volunteers, thank you. Your time, care and dedication never go unnoticed, and we are so grateful for everything you do.

At the heart of our pantry is something really simple: people supporting people.

Yes, we offer affordable food through our membership, helping you make your money go further each week. But what truly makes us different is everything that sits alongside it.

Becoming a member of the pantry means access to much more than a weekly shop. It means ongoing, in-house support designed to help you through life’s challenges and build confidence for the future.

Every month, our members can access:

Support from our in-house team in a warm, friendly, non-judgemental space
🏦Budgeting advice and signposting to debt support through Pennysmart
🏠Drop-in sessions with Guinness Housing
💼Legal advice from Hall Smith Whittingham Solicitors
🔋Energy-saving guidance from The Green Doctors

Recently, someone shared that coming to the pantry has been beneficial not only financially, but also for their confidence and mental health. That’s exactly why we exist.

We know times are challenging for so many people right now, and taking that first step can feel difficult but you don’t have to do it alone.

Whether you’re already part of our community or thinking about joining, you’ll always be welcomed with kindness, respect, and understanding.

Pop in for a chat, a cuppa, and see how we can support you.

A big thank you to Crewe Town Council for the continued way they support and invest in the local community.

Crewe Town Council plays a key role in helping make Crewe a stronger, more connected place to live. Through funding local projects, supporting community organisations, and investing in initiatives that matter, they help ensure support reaches the people who need it most.

Their work goes far beyond funding alone. From free family activities and school holiday programmes, to cultural events, heritage projects, and wellbeing initiatives, they help create opportunities for people of all ages to get involved, stay active, and feel part of their community.

This kind of ongoing support helps local groups like ours continue to grow and make a real difference on the ground. It strengthens the network of care across Crewe and helps people feel more connected, supported, and included.

Calling all Aldi Nantwich shoppers – can you help support your local community?

Next time you’re shopping at Aldi Nantwich, you’ll spot our donation trolley in-store and every single item placed in it goes directly to local individuals and families who are struggling to make ends meet.

Right now, many people in our community are feeling the pressure as wages don’t quite stretch far enough to cover everyday essentials. That’s where we come in. Our pantry offers affordable food alongside free essentials such as fresh fruit & veg, bakery items, and sanitary products, helping people make their budgets go further when they need it most.

But it doesn’t stop at food. We’re here to listen, to support, and to help with practical challenges too, whether that’s budgeting advice, debt support, or simply a welcoming, judgement-free space.

If you’re visiting Aldi, could you help by adding just one extra item to your shop and popping it into our donation trolley?

That one small act could make a real difference to someone in your own community.

Thank you for your kindness and support, it truly matters.
