World Breastfeeding Week 2026 🦷🤱

Did you know that breastfeeding can support your baby’s oral health as well as their overall health?

✅ Research shows that breastfeeding up to 12 months is associated with a reduced risk of tooth decay.

✅ Breastfeeding helps develop the oral muscles and support healthy jaw development.

✅ Breastmilk has amazing antibacterial properties. Studies have found that breastmilk and your baby’s saliva work together to create natural antibacterial protection, helping healthy bacteria grow and supporting good oral health from the very beginning.

As soon as your baby’s first tooth appears (usually around 6 months), start brushing twice a day with a smear of fluoride toothpaste to help keep those new teeth healthy.

And a reminder for parents: NHS dental care is free during pregnancy and for 12 months after your baby is born, so don’t forget to look after your own oral health too.

HM Revenue and Customs is urging parents to claim Child Benefit for their new baby to avoid missing out.

Child Benefit can be claimed 48 hours after the baby’s birth is registered but can only be backdated for up to three months from the date HMRC receives the claim, meaning families are not getting what they’re entitled to receive.

Parents can access their Child Benefit account quickly and easily via the HMRC app.
To make a new claim for Child Benefit, parents can create an online HMRC account and will need:
• child’s birth or adoption certificate
• bank details
• National Insurance number for themselves and their partner, if they have one
• child’s original birth or adoption certificate and passport or travel document, for children born outside the UK

To find out more and to make a claim visit:
