Something a little different for Turnstyle.
One of our young people recently went fishing with our good friend Adie, who regularly gives up his time to help us when we take young people to the football.
The feedback afterwards was brilliant. In his words, he’d had some great coaching, “learnt a bundle” and even came away with a few personal bests.
Adie also brings his own lived experience, which can be invaluable when spending time alongside young people.
It’s something we’d really like to explore more of.
At Turnstyle, we’re always looking for different ways of connecting with young people through the things that actually matter to them. Sometimes that’s boxing, combat sports or football. Sometimes it’s simply sitting down and having a conversation.
And sometimes, it’s standing beside a lake with a fishing rod.
It gives young people the chance to learn something, achieve something and spend time alongside good people. Often, when you get that bit right, everything else starts to come a little more naturally.
A massive thank you to Adie for giving up his time voluntarily to make this happen.
Since Pete’s book, Tell Peter I Love Him, was released, we’ve seen an increase in people supporting Turnstyle through one-off and monthly donations, which genuinely means a great deal to us.
But support isn’t always about money.
Sometimes giving your time, your experience and a bit of yourself can be just as valuable.
