RELEASE: 23/08

Cai arrived with his siblings, Cole and Carry, on 15/06 after they were found out during the daytime in the Severn Beach area.

Weighing just 72g, Cai was extremely small and needed syringe-feeding initially. Thankfully, no parasite burdens were detected, although he did have a small amount of fly strike which was removed.

With plenty of care, food and time to grow, Cai reached a fantastic 550g and was released to one of our lovely supported release gardens. We’re hoping Cole and Carry will soon be ready to follow in their brother’s pawprints!

Meet Oggy!

Oggy was admitted on 08/08, 225g, after being found out during the daytime in the Penyrheol area, Caerphilly.

After an examination, Oggy was dehydrated and emaciated. Sub cutaneous fluids, antibiotics and pain relief were given.

Oggy had sustained two wounds to the right side on the spine/fur line possibly from a dog attack. His skin condition was poor - he had mites and ringworm which was quite severe on his legs and face so lots of baths and medication sprays were given.

After screening his faeces we found parasite burdens of Capillaria (roundworm) and Fluke. Oggy has progressed in care very well; treatment has finished and, at 459g, he is now nearly ready for release.

RELEASE: 21/08

Sid arrived with us on 26/07, weighing just 160g. He was found out during the daytime trapped between a fence post and a wall.

The ordeal had caused abrasions around his neck so he was given a course of antibiotics. He also had lots of ticks, which were carefully removed, and a particularly bad case of ringworm that required treatment.

After nearly four weeks of care, Sid had made a wonderful recovery and reached a healthy 546g! He was released into a lovely wildlife-friendly garden where he has the opportunity to thrive.

Meet Poppy!

This lucky lady was admitted on 16/08, 400g, after being found out during the daytime in the Mountain Ash area.

After an examination, she was found to be dehydrated and underweight. She'd suffered four wounds from a dog bite in various locations on her body.

After screening her faeces, we found parasite burdens of Capillaria (roundworm) and Crenosoma (lungworm).

Poppy's treatment plan is 3/4 finished - her wounds are healing well and the dead tissue/spines are coming off in chunks! She has finished her course of antibiotics and has received sub cutaneous fluids and pain relief.

Poppy is eating well and has good nest building skills. Her weight is now 546g.

RELEASE: 21/08

Egg (who had a lovely furry belly!) was admitted from the Rhiwbina area on 02/07, 222g, after being found out during the daytime.

He was treated successfully for his parasite burdens, fly strike and ticks were removed.

Egg was released at 565g where a nestbox was waiting for him. Good luck Egg!

UPDATE: Daphne

Little Daphne (previously Dalton - it's hard to tell sometimes when they are so small!) is doing well. She's receiving treatment for mild ringworm and has nearly trebled in size!

RELEASE: 21/08

Remember our Jasmine? She was admitted on 27/04, at 1286g from Ely, Cardiff. She was found out in the daytime by a bus stop in a cage with sawdust and no one around... Luckily the finder knew this was very strange, removed her from the cage and placed her into a high sided box.

Fluid therapy and pain relief was given. We tackled her long curly toe nails, cutting them right back, and treated her for ringworm. Thankfully, no parasite burdens were discovered.

After a very long stay in our care, as getting her fit and healthy for release was a challenge, we were able to release Jasmine to an outstanding garden with woodlands attached. She makes a fantastic nest, loves digging and is a bit huffy too!

Though her weight on release was quite high, 1299g, she can still ball up and will walk it off in due course!

✨Please note Hedgehogs are wild animals and NOT PETS - they shouldn't be kept inside unless in the care of a rescue. ✨

RELEASE: 19/08

Spike arrived with us on 04/07, after being found out during the daytime. He weighed just 170g and was dehydrated and slightly underweight.

Tests showed that Spike was carrying both lungworm and roundworm, which were successfully treated while he regained his strength.

Unfortunately, Spike couldn’t be returned to his finder, but he has now been released into a lovely, carefully selected release garden close to where he was originally found at a healthy weight of 560g.

Good luck, little Spike - enjoy being wild again!
