Please see details below of a fundraising event taking place on 24th October. It's unfortunately in danger of being cancelled if more tickets aren't sold. Please support if you can.

*EVENT FREE FOR CHIDREN*

Sadly, only 4 people so far have bought tickets to our event to raise money for Caerphilly Hedgehog Rescue's work to protect hedgehogs.😭

Hedgehogs are in perilous decline and could face extinction, within the lifetime of many alive today.

Please help us raise awareness about this event, which is going to be so much fun and is so important!

We need to sell 50 tickets to cover costs and to raise any money for Caerphilly Hedgehog Rescue.

Meet Jackie!

Hoglet Jackie came into the rescue on 29/09. She was found out in the day all alone in the Splott area of Cardiff, weighing only 127g.

After triage by our lead carers, Jackie was found to be emaciated and dehydrated. (These are the most common reason hedgehogs come into rescues so please keep putting out kitten biscuits or cat/dog food and water for them to get them ready for hibernation.)

Jackie was given sub cutaneous fluid, placed into a heated pen and her faeces was checked for parasites (thankfully clear).

Weighing 200g, she left HQ to go to one of our wonderful support carers. She’ll be monitored and, when she has gained enough weight, will be released back into the area where she was found.

We’ll keep you posted!

It's less than a month until bonfire night - have you made plans yet?

🚫 Stop – do you need to have a bonfire this year? The fewer bonfires there are, the fewer wildlife casualties there are too.

🫳 Move - if you do decide to have a bonfire, always build it on the day you plan to light it. Move all accumulated materials to a new clear site as hedgehogs & other wildlife or pets may be hiding inside.

🔦 Check - before lighting from one side, check the entire bonfire pile carefully for wildlife & pets.

STOP. MOVE. CHECK! ⬇️

Meet Pancake and Nugget!

Pancake (m), was admitted via Caerphilly Veterinary Clinic on 28/09 weighing in at 142g. Nugget (f) was admitted on 4/10 weighing in at 160g. She was found out in the daytime being attacked by magpies in the Caerphilly area. It is believed the hoglets are siblings.

On examination both were dehydrated and emaciated.
After screening their faeces, no parasite burdens have been located as yet. Sub cutaneous fluids and pain relief was been administered.

They are settling in well together!

RELEASE: 27/09

Cariad was admitted on 09/08, found out in the daytime with no sign of any siblings or mum.

At just 107g she was too young to fend for herself. Her spines had been nibbled by birds or rodents.

Following treatment for dehydration, she progressed very well and was released weighing 730g. A nest box filled with straw and leaves was waiting for her ready to start her new life in the wild.

Good luck Cariad!
