*ELMC Supports Oldham Community Wardrobe with Grant for Children's Essentials*

We were delighted to recently receive another heartfelt thank you from Karen Smith, Business Manager at St Annes RC Greenacres , expressing gratitude for the support from the grant of £3,000 to Oldham Community Wardrobe to help support local children and families experiencing hardship. It is wonderful to know that the grant has made a meaningful difference to local children and their families.

The ELMC Grant Making Committee is proud to support projects that have a positive impact within our communities, and we thank Oldham Community Wardrobe and its partners for the incredible work they continue to do in helping those who need it most.

🌞 Young People's Committee Summer Outing 🦁🐻🐧

On Thursday 30th July, the Young People's Committee enjoyed their Summer outing with a visit to Yorkshire Wildlife Park.
The group spent the day exploring the park, covering over 10km as they took in the incredible range of animals and exhibits. One of the most memorable parts of the visit was seeing some of the wildlife roaming freely amongst the visitors, making for a truly immersive experience.
The polar bears were undoubtedly the highlight of the day, with everyone enjoying the chance to watch these magnificent animals up close.
Of course, TLC Bear was also there to join in the adventure and enjoyed the day just as much as everyone else! 🧸



As the sun made an appearance in the afternoon, TLC Bear took the opportunity to enjoy a spot of sunbathing—and even managed a little afternoon nap! ☀️😄
To round off a fantastic day, the group headed to Toby Carvery for an excellent roast dinner, providing the perfect ending to a fun-filled outing.
A wonderful day was had by all, with plenty of smiles, laughter, and memories made. The Young People's Committee is already looking forward to its next adventure!

🌺 Hewlett Court in Bloom – Volunteers Needed! 🌺

Our dedicated ELMC volunteer, Paul Sellers, proudly holds the title of Head Groundsman at Hewlett Court and spends several hours each week keeping the grounds looking their best.

As well as mowing the grass, Paul looks after the gardens and surrounding areas, including:

🌿 Trimming trees and shrubs
🌱 Removing weeds
🌸 Planting and maintaining flower tubs
🍂 Collecting and clearing large amounts of fallen leaves

Paul would love one or two volunteers—ladies or gents—to lend a hand. Even if you can spare just a few hours each week, your help would make a real difference and be greatly appreciated.

💖 A Huge Well Done to Julie! 💖

Congratulations to Julie on completing the Cancer Research UK Race for Life on Sunday 5th July in loving memory of her late husband, Charles Ward. 💕

Thanks to the incredible generosity of everyone who supported her, Julie has raised an amazing £753.25, including Gift Aid, for Cancer Research UK.

Charles was a much-loved part of our Hewlett Court community, and we know he would be so proud of Julie's determination and of everyone who donated to such an important cause. We are incredibly proud too.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated, shared kind words and encouraged Julie along the way. Every pound raised helps fund life-saving cancer research and brings us one step closer to beating cancer.

🎱 A simple table. A real difference.

A £700 grant from the East Lancashire Masonic Charity has helped provide a new pool table for Darwen Ward at the Pendleview Unit, Royal Blackburn Hospital.

During a recent visit, Area Charity Steward Graham Robinson saw first-hand how the table has become far more than just a game. It is now a focal point for activity, conversation, confidence and calm.

Patients who may previously have stayed in their rooms are now being encouraged to come out, take part and engage with others. A frame of pool provides structure, focus, friendly competition and a welcome sense of achievement.

The grant was made through Hope and Mind, the charity supporting Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust, which helps fund equipment and services that the NHS may not otherwise be able to provide.

This is charity at its most practical. It isn’t always about grand gestures. Sometimes, meeting a simple need can have a lasting impact, creating opportunities for conversation, confidence and connection every single day.

Our sincere thanks go to Hope and Mind and the dedicated staff at Pendleview for the outstanding work they do in supporting some of the most vulnerable people in our community.
