Bournemouth Foodbank

Bournemouth Foodbank Most of us can go to our kitchen fridge and cupboards and feed our families. What if this is not happening in a third world country?

The Bournemouth Foodbank works to bring our community together to end hunger and poverty in Bournemouth and the UK by providing compassionate, practical help, upholding dignity and challenging injustice. But what if the cupboards are bare, the fridge is empty, and the children are sent to bed hungry? What if this is happening to your neighbours, or to a child at your child's school, or to your co-

worker? This is reality for more families than we realise in our communities. We launched The Bournemouth Food Bank at the end of 2007 to ensure families do not go without food, and children do not go to bed or school unnecessarily hungry. Through contact with health visitors, head teachers, doctor surgeries, church ministers and other community workers, those who are without food can receive a food voucher and exchange it for emergency food parcels from one of our distribution points around Bournemouth. Alongside the food, further help and advice is given to try and alleviate the reasons why the recipients have needed the services of the Food Bank. We collect food from individuals, other local churches and at local supermarkets. If you would like to help for a couple of hours with our next supermarket collection, please contact Vicki Lent. We also need volunteers to help with food sorting and hospitality at our distribution points.

💭 Imagine if every one of our followers donated just £1…

Between our Facebook and Instagram communities, we have 4,985 followers.

If everyone donated just £1, we’d raise £4,985.

Now here’s the incredible bit…

Thanks to Aviva’s match funding, that £4,985 could become £9,970! 🤯

That’s the power of a small donation when a community comes together.

We know not everyone can donate, and that’s absolutely okay. But if you’re able to spare £1, £2, £5 or more, you’ll be helping us provide emergency food, essential support and hope to local people facing hardship.

And if you can’t donate, sharing this post could help us reach someone who can.

Every pound matters. Every share matters. Every supporter matters.

📦 Warehouse Wednesday 📦

This week, Becca is taking us behind the scenes to show you our Family Essentials section of the warehouse.

When people think of foodbanks, they often think of food. But many local people are also struggling to afford everyday essentials that most of us use without a second thought.

💚 Family Fresh Packs – containing items such as shampoo, shower gel, sanitary products, washing pods and other household essentials.

👶 Bump to Baby Packs – supporting expectant parents and newborn babies with essential items during those precious first weeks.

🍼 Baby Essential Care Kits – including nappies, wipes, formula, nappy cream and other baby care necessities.

These items can make a huge difference to local people facing financial hardship, helping them maintain dignity while navigating difficult circumstances.

A huge thank you to everyone who donates these much-needed products. Every donation helps us provide more than just food – it helps us provide care, comfort and practical support when it’s needed most.

🎥 Watch Becca’s video to find out more about how these packs support local people across our community.

Meet Alfie, one of our fantastic Garden Rooms Cafe volunteers.
Alfie enjoys many things about volunteering in the cafe including bringing a little joy to customers by providing a relaxing break from their busy day. He likes working with Tansy our chef, and seeing how ingredients are put together to make wonderfully, resourceful and creative menus.
The continual development of his skill set and learning the craft, are stated by Alfie as being very beneficial elements of his volunteering journey.
Final words from Alfie today as he works with a World Cup music theme in the background are, 'Come on England'.
