Builders Merchant Offers Free Sand as Flood Warning Raised to Amber ⛔️☔️

With flood alerts in the area now upgraded to Amber, a Pontypridd builders merchant has stepped in to help residents prepare for rising water levels.

Hughes Forrest Builders Merchant, based at Unit 3, Glyntaff Sidings, CF37 4BW, has announced it will be placing tonnes of sand outside its branch free of charge for anyone needing to fill their own bags. Locals are encouraged to bring their own sacks or containers, as the merchant has run out of hessian bags.

The sand will be placed near the main entrance, and residents are welcome to help themselves throughout the day.

In a gesture aimed especially at vulnerable members of the community, the company says elderly residents can request assistance on-site. Staff from the yard and office teams will happily fill bags for them and load them neatly into their cars.

Those living on Berw Road, Sion Street, and other flood-risk areas can also arrange for a bag of sand to be dropped off to their home to help them stay protected.

With Storm Claudia already causing disruption and the risk of flooding rising, the business says it simply wants to support its community: “Please feel free to pop up and help yourselves.”

Residents are urged to stay vigilant and prepare where possible as the extreme weather continues.
