๐ŸŒŸ What an amazing adventure our entry into the Staysure Choir DREAM BIG Competition has been ๐ŸŒŸ

Taking part has brought so much connection, friendship and joy to our Forget Me Not Dementia cafe family, from practising our song together to creating our video, every step of the journey has reflected the warmth, spirit and special character of our group.

As a volunteer led Dementia cafe,we believe that everyone should be able to live their best lives, regardless of a dementia diagnosis,to come together, share experiences and create something special.

While we have not progressed to the public voting stage,we are absolutely delighted that our video has been selected as one of the community choirs receiving a special mention and awarded ยฃ250 .We are incredibly proud of everyone who took part and all that we have achieved together.

We would like to congratulate all the finalists and wish them all the best of luck.

Most importantly,a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has supported ,encouraged and cheered us on throughout this journey, your kindness and support means so much to us and especially to our incredible team of volunteers who are at the heart of everything we do.โค๏ธ

Today,on the anniversary of D-Day,we pause to remember the courage, sacrifice and resilience of the men and women who played their part in one of historyโ€™s most significant moments.

Many of the memories of our group and their families are connected to this remarkable generation.
Their stories, experiences and contributions continue to inspire us and remind us of the importance of community, friendship and remembrance.

At the Forget Me Not Dementia cafe,Marton URC,Blackpool fy3 9Ur we honour those who served and those who supported them, both at home and abroad.
We are grateful for the freedoms we enjoy today because of their bravery and dedication.

Lest we forget โค๏ธ

As Dementia Action Week draws to a close, the Forget Me Not Dementia cafe was delighted to play our part in local events supporting and celebrating our wonderful community in Blackpool and surrounding areas -people living with dementia alongside their families and friends ๐Ÿ’™

We passionately believe that everyone deserves equality, person centred care and most importantly, for their voices to be heard.

Our groups are filled with laughter, friendship and joy. While quiet spaces are always available many visitors enjoy spending time in our award winning Sensory Garden, listening to birdsong and seeing the sights, sounds and calming beauty of nature.

Our fun filled Singalongs continue to inspire us all. When words are hard to find and conversations become difficult, music creates connections.Singing offers a powerful way to express emotions, bring people together and lift our spirits.

Thank you to everyone who joined us during Dementia Action week and continue to support our mission to ensure that nobody faces dementia alone ๐Ÿ’™

This week is and to mark it, I visited a brilliant local organisation supporting local people living with dementia and their families. ๐Ÿ’™

The Forget Me Not Dementia Cafe meets at Marton Methodist Church every Monday and Wednesday between 11am and 1pm. On the fourth Wednesday of each month it also operates as Blackpool Dementia Hub.

The cafe was founded by Jenny Fitzimmons, whose experiences caring for both her mother and husband through dementia inspired her to create a space where people could find support earlier and never feel alone.

Jenny spoke movingly about the challenges she faced when caring for her loved ones and how difficult it was to access the right support at the right time. That experience became the driving force behind Forget Me Not โ€“ making sure other families receive the help and understanding they need much sooner.

It was a lovely surprise to see my old school friend Beverley there leading the music sessions. Beverley recently launched Together in Tune , an initiative offering interactive guitar sing-alongs for older people and those living with dementia. ๐ŸŽถ

What struck me most during my visit was the strength of the community that has been built around the cafe. Every few months they organise parties for families affected by dementia, giving carers and loved ones a chance to connect as well.

The compassion, dignity and companionship offered by places like Forget Me Not canโ€™t be replaced and I am incredibly grateful to everyone involved for the difference they make every single day.

More than one third of people in the UK living with dementia currently have no formal diagnosis, meaning they can miss out on vital care and support. Common signs can include memory loss, difficulty carrying out familiar tasks, confusion, or problems with language and communication. If you recognise these symptoms in yourself or a loved one, I encourage you to speak to the NHS or organisations such as the Alzheimerโ€™s Society.
