Bishop's Stortford Choral Society

Bishop's Stortford Choral Society BSCS is a successful, unauditioned choir of more than 80 voices performing large scale choral works
in and around Bishop's Stortford.

We rehearse at the United Reform Church, Water Lane, Bishop's Stortford, every Thursday at 19:45. Richard Brain, our musical director, is encouraging us to broaden our repertoire. Our performances have ranged from Purcell to Will Todd. We performed The Dream of Gerontius at Saffron Hall, to celebrate the 80th anniversary of our formation. Conducted by Richard Brain, we joined with Barnet Choral S

ociety who were celebrating a similar anniversary. It was an amazing experience with 3 soloists together with more than 130 singers and an orchestra of over 60 instrumentalists

🏆🏆🏆And that's a wrap from this year's annual BSCS quiz with quizmasters extraordinaire, Mike and Des!

And the winners are Team Jazz Hands: Richard, Lin, Helen, Gareth, URC stalwart Barbara, plus Steve, Naomi and the Jazz Hands' secret weapon, Will (who was the youngest quizzer in the room but an actual space expert with top knowledge of kids' TV programmes! 👍).

Gareth and Steve appear to think they have won the World Cup ⚽️😂🏆🤔

Only one brave soul from the losing wooden spoon team, Team Fun-lovers, came up to face the music, but was gracious in defeat accepting tubes of smarties as compensation for a truly dismal result! Lots of fun was had by all!

Quite a few of our singers also sing with the fabulous Harlow Chorus (at the last count 5 altos, 3 basses, 1 tenor plus two occasional ones and 1 soprano! 😊) and we're more than happy to share news about their 50th birthday concert! They'll be at Saffron Hall on July 11th - free shuttle bus in operation from Audley End station

ROLL UP! ROLL UP! Join us for the ultimate Lazy Sunday Afternoon experience at our next concert! We're putting on a programme of choral music with a bit of jazz infusion in the stunning surroundings of the newly-refurbished Water Lane United Reformed Church. Music to include Bob Chilcott's 'Little Jazz Mass' and Sir John Rutter's 'Birthday Madrigals' with a jazz trio of piano, double bass and drums. PLUS we'll be joined by student instrumental soloists from the Herts & Essex High School. What's not to love?
