As the season changes, the triggers can too

For military veterans living with PTSD, this time of year can introduce unique and difficult challenges

The changing environment can unexpectedly trigger
trauma responses

• Fallen leaves: The dry crunch underfoot can mimic the sound of movement or conceal hazards, driving the mind back into hypervigilance
• Sudden noises: Halloween fireworks, backfiring engines, and autumn storms can easily sound like gunfire or explosions
• Shorter days: Less sunlight can impact mood, worsen depression, and intensify the isolation that often accompanies PTSD

If you are a veteran struggling with the season shift, please know you are not alone. Reach out to someone you trust or connect with dedicated support like us
