Our tapestry team will be welcoming everyone from the community who wants to take a look at the first public display of the work on the Banchory Tapestry. You can come along this Friday 17th April 5pm-8pm and all day Saturday 18th April from 10am-4pm. The venue will be St Ternan's Church on the High Street next to Tease. We will have a full display of our art work and all the panels we have stitched so far. We'll also have the first showing of the top horizontal of Panel 1- the night time sky scene- with the hills and sky done in applique. Over the following weeks, this part will be further adorned with stitching to represent bird life, star constellations, fireworks and much more besides. Some of our wonderful volunteer stitchers will be there to show you how they are transferring the art work to stitched scenes. Please come along and meet us and feel free to bring family and friends with you. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Today, April 6th is Tartan Day across the world. Our own Banchory Tartan has made it to all corners of the globe since it launched last summer. After lots of enquiries from you all about fabric availability, we’re pleased to say we have been able to order heavyweight 100% wool fabric which will be available to buy by the metre in a couple of months for all your projects from cushions to kilts!

Sorry we haven’t posted for a while but with the festive period and the snow preventing our regular Wednesday meeting we are now back in business ! Here you can see the intricate work on two of the four Tree verticals evolving beautifully with Autumn (left) and Spring (right).
Sue Blow who keeps us all on track with the embroidery says: "The rain hasn’t diminished the attendance or the enthusiasm of the stitchers. There has been great progress over the last few weeks, possibly because the snow confined so many of us to home. We are now working in parallel: completing key sections of the embroidery on our beautiful linen fabric, while experimenting with new stitches, colours, threads and beads on our samplers. This way of working has been brilliant for building confidence and for sharing the work between us, and the samplers are developing a life of their own!"
We would happily welcome new members to the group. Our weekly session is every Wednesday from 2pm till 4pm at the Deeside Rugby Clubhouse. We realise this day and time will not suit everyone so we are currently looking at alternatives to accommodate more volunteers.
