Ballywalter Young Farmers Club We are an organisation ran by young people for young people! We meet every other Friday evening in Greyabbey Village Hall.

You dont have to be a farmer, to be a young farmer 👩‍🌾 Young Farmers' Clubs of Ulster (YFCU) was founded in 1929 by W.S Armour with the first club being established in Limavady. Over 80 years later, YFCU is still going from strength to strength with approx 60 clubs throughout Northern Ireland. YFCU represents the interests and aspirations of approx 3,000 members aged 12 - 25 years of age. A further 3,500 rural young people are estimated to take part in and benefit from local Young Farmers' Club activities and events. At the heart of the YFCU is an annual calendar of internally and externally accredited courses, competitions and events that are delivered under one of three main categories: agriculture; culture and the arts; and sports and social events. The calendar is designed to ensure that the programme of work offers something for everyone, from all backgrounds and abilities and at all levels of the association. Our programme of agri and rural development related activities (e.g. dairy, beef and sheep stockjudging, silage making and assessment, fencing, machinery handling and soil assessment) is complemented by a broader culture, sports and arts programme including public speaking, group debating, tag rugby, girls football and drama festivals all of which members enjoy participating in. In addition to the annual calendar of activities, we also provide a wide range of awareness campaigns such as our rural road safety campaign which aims to raise awareness of road safety amongst our members.

✨🎉 Ballywalter Junior Young Farmers Club celebrated their 70th anniversary on Saturday 10th October in Harrison’s of Greyabbey Restaurant

To celebrate, past and present members, past and vice presidents and friends, gathered for a white w**e reception.

Catching up for a chat and looking over old photographs and club memorabilia before a beautiful 4 course dinner.

The anniversary cake was made by club member Rachael McCracken and her mother, and was officially cut by twice past president Isobel Harrison, and junior club leader Oliver Patton.

Guest speaker was senior member and
YFCU president Kristina Fleming.
Compere for the evening was club president Richard Harrison who proposed a toast to the club birthday, this was replied by Oliver Patton.

We are grateful to Harrison’s restaurant and staff, Rachael McCracken, Newtownards chronicle photrapher Bob Torrens, and our raffle sponsors - Bank of Ireland, CES Quarries, H Miskimmin LTD, Glastry Farm Ice Cream, Francis Watson of Cloughy, Angus Farm Shop, N G Bell and Son LTD, John Kennedy & Partners, James and Pamela Brown.

We also acknowledge the hard work of our senior club secretary Hanna Miskimmin who brought the whole evening together

🚔 Friday Night at Ballywalter YFC!

What a great evening we had at our meeting on Friday night! We were delighted to welcome the PSNI, who delivered a very informative talk to our members. It was a really valuable evening, giving everyone the opportunity to learn more about the work they do within our local community.

We also had Hanna giving our new members some information about the wide range of competitions and opportunities available through Young Farmers. It was great to introduce our newer members to everything they can get involved in throughout the year, from competitions to activities and events! 🌟

A huge thank you to the PSNI for taking the time to come along and speak to our members, and to Hanna for sharing her knowledge and helping our new members get settled in 💙
