Our DofE volunteer, May, has taken over our socials again! She has been reflecting on her life at school...

"Even though I have ACC, things can be hard sometimes and I am finding school challenging at the moment. I have a group of friends, but I don't always feel like I fit in and think they just put up with me because they have been told to. I also worry sometimes that people find me annoying.

"Even when things feel difficult, I am learning that it's ok to be myself and to find my own path. I believe it's important not to change who you are just to fit in. The right friends will accept you, be kind to you and value you for who you are.

"I like being on my own sometimes as I then feel more comfortable being myself. Having ACC means I experience friendships and social situations differently, and that's ok! I'm learning that everyone is different, and it's important to find people who appreciate you for who you are."

πŸ“£ We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Neuroaffirming With Simon will be speaking at Corpal's Family Conference this year! πŸŽ‰

With over 25 years of classroom experience, Simon brings a unique dual perspective to inclusive education. As an autistic teacher currently teaching four days a week, Simon specialises in transforming school environments and policies into spaces where neurodivergent children and staff don't just survive, but thrive, providing strategies that are tested, realistic, and deeply rooted in lived experience.

Simon's session will focus on practical advice for parents on navigating the UK education system with a child with a Disorder of the Corpus Callosum, covering topics such as:

βœ… What support should my child be receiving in school?
βœ… How do I work effectively with teachers and SENCOs?
βœ… When is mainstream school the right choice?
βœ… How can I help school staff understand my child's needs?
βœ… What practical adjustments make the biggest difference?
βœ… How can I help my child develop confidence, independence and self-advocacy?

Simon will also be around after his talk to offer advice and answer any specific questions.

We're excited to share yet another cool challenge to raise money for Corpal! After swimming the Scarborough coast last year, Olive's Auntie Clare is now taking on the Menai Strait Channel! πŸ₯½

Olive was diagnosed with Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum when she was 15 months old, and her family have been to a couple of our events. She is doing really well, and we couldn't be more grateful to Auntie Clare for her fundraising efforts!

The swim is on 30th August, so hopefully the weather will be a bit better than it was for last year's very rainy challenge!

Good luck, Auntie Clare! Link below if you would like to sponsor Clare for her efforts! 🀍

Corpal's current youngest volunteer, May, has just completed her Duke of Edinburghs Award expedition. May has Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum and she wanted to write a post about her experience! 😊

"Last month I completed my DofE expedition, and honestly it was really hard but I pushed through it, and it proved to me that I can do anything with ACC.

"I was nervous before going because I didn’t know the girls in my group. I knew I’d have to walk for hours, rely on the group to use a map so we didn’t get lost (my sense of direction 🀯), and carry a really, really heavy rucksack πŸ˜… (why did I need to pack so much stuff??πŸ€ͺ). We also had to pitch and sleep in a tent - brrr, that was coldπŸ₯Ά

"We did get a bit lost at one point, which was scary enough... but then we realised we were on private land and saw a sign saying β€œKeep out - shooting ground” 😱. Suddenly our navigation skills improved very quickly 🀣

"It was hard, but also really fun, and my family and teachers are proud of me.

"Secretly, I’m proud of myself too πŸ˜‰. ACC doesn’t stop me from achieving big things 😊"

Well done, May! We can't wait to read your next post!! 🀍

Hey it is me May who has ACC! I just want to say thank you for donating money to Corpal and supporting my mum doing the Brentwood half marathon ❀️. It is great to have a support group like Corpal supporting meπŸ’–. Thank you Corpal ❀️.

Here is a picture of me and my mum training ❀️. Maybe next year I will have to talk her into doing a full marathon to raise more for Corpal 😍. Thank you all and thank you Corpal!
