Ahead of our performance at the iconic Brangwyn Hall this weekend, Ammanford Town Silver Band passes on its heartfelt congratulations to Philip Rogers on an incredible achievement. This weekend sees him take to the stage at a Welsh Regional championship for the 50th time, most of which have been as representative of Ammanford Band; a testament to Phil’s loyalty, passion and lifelong commitment to the band.
Phil is not only a cherished member of our organisation; he is an incredibly respected and well‑known figure within the brass banding world. His musicianship, professionalism and good nature have earned him admiration across Wales and the wider UK, where his contribution to the art form continues to help keep brass banding tradition alive, thriving and relevant for future generations.
Since his first outing aged seven and the subsequent five decades of playing, Phil has been central to some of the band’s proudest achievements. One of the standout moments came in 2001, when he played a key role in helping Ammanford Town Silver Band win the National Championships; a victory still celebrated as one of the greatest milestones in our history.
His story is one of genuine legacy. Phil is part of a remarkable three‑generation banding family. His father, Eifion Rogers, was a band stalwart for many years; his wife, Susan, served the band faithfully both behind the stand and in a non playing capacity and his daughter, Elisabeth, went on to become the youngest principal player in the band’s history. Their collective service has shaped the band’s identity and left an indelible mark on its story.
Speaking on Phil’s latest achievement, Jamie Reynolds, Chair & Trustee, said, “Phil’s achievement is so impressive – as a group of players we are so proud of his half‑century. Phil’s a great person and friend to so many of us and this shows his talent and commitment as a player for Ammanford Town Silver Band for so many years – we’re all delighted for him!”
Owain Jones of TRJ, the President of Ammanford Town Silver Band, added,“I want to offer my congratulations to Phil and indeed his family on this remarkable occasion. Phil is part of a true banding family dynasty and is someone we all immediately associate with Ammanford Band – a truly wonderful milestone for Phil, his family and Ammanford Town Silver Band.”
This Saturday, the band will return to the contest stage to perform the dramatic and evocative set work ‘20,000 Leagues Under The Sea – A Tribute to Jules Verne’. As we prepare, we do so with immense pride — not only in the music we will play, but in the remarkable people who make our band what it is.
Phil’s fiftieth contest performances represents dedication, tradition and a profound love for brass banding. From all of us at Ammanford Town Silver Band, congratulations, to you. We are immensely proud of you and everything you continue to bring to the banding world!
