We welcomed a lovely new family to our HomeEd session this afternoon, and they settled straight in! They spent some time with us at the ALC, and then went into the woodland to explore. We love and encourage this independence during our sessions... it's so lovely to see families spending special time together...

The rest of our regulars were keen to get the jobs ticked off the job list, and we managed to find 10 eggs today... some of our young learners took a torch into one of the sheds and independently candled all the eggs, and they found that one had started to incubate..." it has a dark patch, and we can some the veins .." .. WOW! that was impressive... well done girls!

We went into the woodland, and played "Toss the Caber"... One of our families had been to see the Highland Games exhibition in Matlock recently, so we re-enacted this, with slightly smaller logs, in our session today! It was SO much fun, and we adapted it to suit our young learners, who really got the hang of it, after a few tries!

We spent some time fussing our gorgeous six month old piglets, who were more than happy to have snuggles and belly rubs.

There was a bit of everything this afternoon, in our fully booked Wednesday afternoon mixed age session! 🤣...from jobs at the Animal Learning Centre, to digging for 'treasure', sweeping, raking, washing feed trays, cleaning out water troughs, feeding and fussing... to spending time with our 6 month old piglets, who were SO happy to just come for a fuss and a cuddle... We went down to the ponds and the river and to the rope swing, and ended up playing in our community woodland before heading home! The time went SO quickly, and everyone happily joined in with everything!

What a super afternoon, and we didn't even notice the drizzle. The group participation was fabulous... there was dam building down at the river, and some of the group found a low branch to swing on, and the communication and discussion on how to climb and swing on it, was a pleasure to stand back and listen to. Turn taking on the smaller rope swing was fabulous, and super, unprompted 'pleases' and 'thankyous' could be heard all afternoon!

Our mixed ages session was absolutely wonderful today, with so much positivity, enthusiasm, and enjoyment from adults and young learners alike. It was so lovely to have some dads with us too, and everyone worked and played hard all afternoon!

We spent time with our wonderful animals, and everyone happily and willingly ticked all the jobs off the list, making sure all our fluffies, furries and featheries had everything they need to be happy and healthy, and when we came back up from the river, all our animals were chilled and resting calmly in the sunshine! 🌞

We went down to the ponds and the river again today, and without any prompting or suggestion, nearly the whole group got straight in the river and walked all the way down to the rope swing, with squeals of delight when the cold water spilled into wellies!

The ponds are looking absolutely beautiful, and it's lovely to see everything springing back to life. We are so fortunate to have all these amazing natural habitats that are so easily accessible, and the educational opportunities are endless. The self confidence of all our young learners astounded us today, and everyone went home happy.

We have an amazing HomeEd community, that come back to The Hub, week after week, with wonderful stories of how much their children love spending time with us, and after a bit of a tough couple of weeks, we have all become that bit closer. We are a true tribe, we have each other's backs, and we will keep getting stronger, offering better and better sessions, and helping our young learners become resilient, independent, kind and compassionate young adults! Thank you everyone for such amazing support!

Our Sunday work party session was a busy one today, and the rain kept away for us too!

As usual, our regulars worked SO hard! I don't think there's anything they wouldn't do to help! This week they re-sited Horace's drinking tub... he'd pulled it out of the ground after all the dry weather.... then paving slabs were relaid, all the wet hay in the goat paddock was raked up and added to the compost heap, feed and water trays were cleaned and we made sure all our animals were fed lots of yummy food.
I love that all these wonderful people come every week, go straight to the job list and just get on with the jobs that need doing!

We went into the piglet paddock... and raked the main area where they are fed... we laid some heavy metal gridding that has been generously donated (thank you Craig!) .. so the ground doesn't get too rooted up and muddy over the winter months... this was heavy work, but we all worked together... and the job was done in no time!

It was lovely to welcome back a young family who've not been able to get to us for a while, but hopefully they'll be able to join us a little more often now. ❤️

We went down to the ponds, and the river, which have been totally dried up for weeks, and it was wonderful to see the ponds all filled up with lovely fresh water again. The river is flowing well again too, we'll soon be river walking and mud sliding again! 💩
