ROAD CLOSURE - Aghagallon Area

I have been updated by DfI Roads that a section of the Boghead Bridge Road has been closed with immediate effect due to safety concerns with a bridge. I will share further details in terms of expected timeline of the closure and what repairs are planned when further information is circulated from DfI Roads. In the meantime I will copy the closure notice below:

Following reports of damage to Boghead Road Bridge, Lower Ballinderry, engineers attended the site and identified that the damage affecting the road was caused by deterioration of the bridge structure. In the interests of public safety, the decision has been taken to close a section of Boghead Bridge Road with immediate effect.

Engineers are currently carrying out detailed structural assessments to fully understand the extent of the damage and to determine the most appropriate solution. Officials are working at pace to progress these assessments and to establish the next steps.

Once these assessments are complete, the Department will be in a better position to provide further information on the proposed works and associated timescales. In the meantime, appropriate traffic management measures are in place, and the situation will continue to be monitored closely.

The Department acknowledges that this closure will cause local disruption and apologises for any inconvenience caused; however, the safety of all road users remains the Department’s primary concern.

Local diversions are in place via the U1005 Diamond Lane, C10 Brankinstown Road and U1004 (off Brankinstown Road), and the travelling public is urged to follow the signage, drive with due care and attention, and allow extra time for their journeys.
