Lurgan District Loyal Orange Lodge No.6

Lurgan District Loyal Orange Lodge No.6 Lurgan District Loyal Orange Lodge Number 6 belongs to the Grand Orange Lodge of County Armagh. 1 of 11 Districts it boasts close to 600 members.

An Orangeman should have a sincere love and veneration for his Heavenly Father, a humble and steadfast faith in Jesus Christ, the Saviour of mankind, believing in Him as the only Mediator between God and man. He should cultivate truth and justice, brotherly kindness and charity, devotion and piety, concord and unity, and obedience to the laws; his deportment should be gentle and compassionate, kin

d and courteous; he should seek the society of the virtuous, and avoid that of the evil; he should honour and diligently study the Holy Scriptures, and make them the rule of his faith and practice; he should love, uphold, and defend the Protestant religion, and sincerely desire and endeavour to propagate its doctrines and precepts; he should strenuously oppose the fatal errors and doctrines of the Church of Rome and other non-Reformed faiths, and scrupulously avoid countenancing (by his presence or otherwise) any act or ceremony of Roman Catholic or other non-Reformed worship; he should, by all lawful means, resist the ascendancy of that Church, its encroachments, and the extension of its power, ever abstaining from all uncharitable words, actions, or sentiments towards all who not not practice the Reformed and Christian Faith; he should remember to keep holy the Sabbath day, and attend the public worship of God, and diligently train up his offspring, and all under his control, in the fear of God, and in the Protestant faith; he should never take the name of God in vain, but abstain from all cursing and profane language, and use every opportunity of discouraging those, and all other sinful practices, in others; his conduct should be guided by wisdom and prudence, and marked by honesty, temperance, and sobriety, the glory of God and the welfare of man, the honour of his Sovereign, and the good of his country, should be the motives of his actions. By now you'll have seen that the Queen Street Arch has gone up again for the 2026 Marching season. We would echo those who rightly point out just how magnificent it is, we're spoilt in Lurgan with the world's largest and grandest Orange Hall and with also having the best Arch in the Country (in our own humble opinion but come on, you can't really argue that can you?)

What we would also like to highlight though is the work that goes on behind the scenes to ensure that not only does the Arch go up but that it stays in pristine condition. From maintenance and repairs to ensuring the funds are there to pay for the essentials and improvements it takes a lot of hard work and thats 12 months a year. So we'd like to highlight the Queen Street Arch committee and all those volunteers who fix up and erect it every year. You'll see it includes members of Lurgan District, Queen Street residents, those beyond our own town who want to help keep this tradition going and even a couple of the District Officers doing a bit of labouring. Well done to all involved! And if you want to help with your hands or financially, they appreciate all support so please get in touch with them.

Lurgan District Officers were pleased to join with our neighbours in Portadown to celebrate their Mini 12th. It proved to be an enjoyable night with a parade which is growing by the year and crowds watching which are also getting larger every time. Our Congratulations go to Portadown District for hosting a fantastic event and our District and Deputy District Master were pleased to be in attendance.

We have all sung the song, but this is your chance to hear the true story about the UDR 4 and one man's ongoing fight to clear his name.

Conviction - Guest Speaker - Neil Latimer
Brownlow Courtyard, Lurgan
Thursday, Sept 10 from 19:00 pm to 21:00 pm

In November 1983, Adrian Carroll, an innocent council worker, was shot dead as he walked home from work in Northern Ireland.

Four members of a locally recruited British Army regiment were arrested, interrogated without legal representation, and convicted of his murder.

Three were later cleared after it emerged that police had altered their statements. The fourth remained convicted, largely on the evidence of one witness.

Neil Latimer has spent more than forty years maintaining his innocence in a case that has returned to court more than any other of its kind.

Northern Ireland was a society at war with itself when he was convicted. Divisions remain over this case today.

Conviction is his account of a life, a murder, a justice system under extraordinary pressure, and a verdict that has never stopped generating argument.

Seating is extremely limited. If you would like to attend please register today.

Statement on behalf of Lurgan District

The members of Lurgan District LOL No.6 are appalled and horrified by the vicious comments on social media directed at our elected representative, Carla Lockhart MP for simply carrying out her role as an elected representative in Scarva last Saturday.
The vile, misogynistic, sectarian and abusive nature of the comments on social media have no place in a civilised and law-abiding society.

The Parades Commission have demonstrated by past decisions that where they deem a march is not supported in an area, it is banned from proceeding. It would appear that the same logic and precedent was not applied in this instance where clearly the people of Scarva did not want this parade to pass through the village.
The wearing of t-shirts and carrying of a banner in support of a terrorist organisation provided proof, if it was needed, of the true motivation of some of the procession’s participants.
The discredited Parades Commission has again demonstrated publicly that it has one rule for one community, and one rule for another in Northern Ireland.

We commend Carla and the other elected representatives for standing with the Scarva Community against this intimidatory parade which sought to raise tensions in the community.
We note the irony in the critical commentary of other political representatives who have consistently supported terrorism for decades, even going as far as naming playgrounds and offices after them. Their hypocrisy is clear for all to see.

Further, we note the heavy handed and provocative nature of the actions of the PSNI on Saturday which were viewed by those present as an attempt to provoke a reaction from the peaceful protestors. The senior officers in command on Saturday need to examine their decisions and the orders given which needlessly escalated the situation. We put on record our thanks to Carla and other elected representatives for their actions which defused the difficult situation and ensured that peace was maintained. We call on the Chief Constable to instigate a review of the policing of both the parade and the peaceful protest.

We thank Carla for her continued leadership on such occasions. We assure her, and her family, of our prayers and good wishes as she continues to serve as our elected MP.

Among The King’s – The Unknown Warrior

You are warmly invited to attend a special evening of remembrance, history, and reflection at Brownlow Courtyard, Lurgan on Thursday 11th June from 7.00pm to 9.00pm for:

Featuring guest speaker and author Mark Scott, this fascinating and moving presentation explores the untold stories behind one of the most poignant symbols of the First World War — the Unknown Warrior.

Drawn from a remarkable family heirloom carried through the trenches by his great-grandfather, Jimmy Scott, Mark’s research uncovers the lives of soldiers carefully recorded within a small wartime notebook. Through years of investigation, he reveals a powerful connection to the story of the Unknown Warrior and sheds new light on the events surrounding the burial in Westminster Abbey in 1920, including the forgotten fate of those not selected — men who remain “Known Unto God”.

Part historical investigation and part deeply personal journey, this compelling talk offers a unique insight into the sacrifice, courage, and humanity of those who served during the Great War.
