Learning about our traditional protocols and cultural values.

Our youths of Kavewa continue to strengthen their understanding of our customs, traditions, and the importance of respecting the ways of our ancestors.

By preserving and practicing these protocols, we ensure that our identity, heritage, and cultural knowledge are passed on to future generations.

COMMUNITY FUNDRAISING ANNOUNCEMENT

As part of our IVDP, we will be holding a special fundraiser this Friday, 29/05/26, to support the rebuilding of our Church. Its our place of worship, hope, and unity for our people and will also serve as our community Evacuation Centre during times of disaster and hardship.

đź’˛ Contribution: $500 per dua na vawati (couple) and youths
🍽 Lunch will be provided

Today, our congregation continues to gather faithfully at the Community Hall because our old church building has been condemned and can no longer safely hold services. Although the building still stands, it now serves another important purpose for our village through rainwater collection.

For many of us, this church is more than just a building. It is where we pray together, celebrate together, mourn together, and find strength together during difficult times. It is part of our identity, our faith, and our future.

We humbly invite everyone — families, friends, youths, and supporters near and far — to join us and support this meaningful cause. Every contribution big or small , every presence, and every prayer will help us move one step closer to rebuilding a safe place for worship and shelter for generations to come. ❤️

Vinaka vakalevu and God bless. 🙏🏽

While our women successfully concluded their Peer Learning Workshop in Labasa, the Cagimaiwai Women’s Project Coordinator is currently in Melbourne (Naarm), representing us at the Women Deliver Conference.

She joins delegates from 189 countries, coming together to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment on a global stage. Tomorrow, she will take part in a panel discussion, contributing our voices, experiences, and priorities to this important international dialogue.

We would like to acknowledge and thank DIVA Equality for the support that enabled us to be at this prestigious event.

Our signatories have officially submitted all required documents for the opening of the Cagimaiwai Women’s Cooperative Account — a powerful step forward for our collective future.

This journey was not an easy one. It meant our women stepping away from their homes, their families, and daily responsibilities to travel and spend the night in Labasa, all in pursuit of progress and empowerment. That sacrifice speaks volumes about their commitment, strength, and vision.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the men who stood in support — holding the home together, caring for families, and ensuring everything remained in place while our women carried this responsibility. This is what true partnership and community look like.

Together, we are building more than an account — we are building resilience, independence, and a stronger future for Cagimaiwai and Kavewa Community.

Vina'a va'alevu to the staff at BSP Labasa Staff anf Macuata Provincial Council Office for their support .

Young Youths Easter Camp 2026

This Easter, we were blessed to host our Young Youths Easter Camp—bringing together our primary, secondary, tertiary students and our MYF (Methodist Youth Fellowship)for a time of learning, reflection, and growth.

While the Macuata Northern MYF Sector Rally was happening at the same time in Vunivutu, we intentionally created this mini camp for our younger generation—because we believe in building strong foundations first. 💛

Over the course of the camp, our youths were empowered through meaningful sessions on:
📌 Life choices & real-world challenges
📌 Career pathways
📌 HIV & AIDS awareness
📌 Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs)
📌 Cyber safety & personal protection
📌 Understanding opportunities and risks in tourism
And many other engagements to empower our children- the future of Kavewa Island.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our amazing speakers:
🙏 Laisiasa Malumu Wereivalu – Nurse from Kokomo
🙏 Mrs Kalisi Biaunisala – Teacher at Labasa Sangam
🙏 Karalaini Mere Drokamaisau – Teacher at Labasa Primary

Your guidance and wisdom have planted seeds that will grow for years to come. 🌱

A special Vina'a va'alevu as well to the two of our own who joined us virtually:
Josefa Vosaira – former Police Officer (26 years), now with NZ Corrections.
Meli Silibaravi – Assitant General Manager at Octopus Resort

Thank you for sharing your journeys, insights on staying safe, and opening our youths’ eyes to the realities of today’s world.

We also thanked our Vatawa Mr Inoke Tuvatuva for his dedication and visionary leadership.

To our young people—you are not just the future, you are the present custodians of our vanua.
Keep learning, keep growing, and keep choosing wisely.

Another successful school cleanup in Druadrua Island is in the books, thanks to the unwavering dedication of our community!

Today, our incredible mothers, fathers and guradians gathered to ensure Druadrua Primary School is a clean and welcoming environment for all students.

As part of our ongoing commitment to education and community well-being, these bimonthly cleanups are a cherished tradition. It's inspiring to see everyone come together, working hand-in-hand to make a tangible difference. From tidying classrooms to sprucing up the grounds, every effort contributes to a brighter learning future for the children, many of whom board at Druadrua from Kavewa Village.

A proud and meaningful achievement for the Yanuyanu i Avewa Development Committee 🙌🏽

Through their collective efforts and successful fundraising with the community, the committee has officially purchased a brushcutter to support keeping the village boundaries clean and well maintained.

This is more than just a tool—it represents unity, hard work, and a shared commitment to caring for our environment and vanua. Maintaining clean surroundings not only protects our land but also strengthens community pride and wellbeing.

Vinaka vakalevu to everyone who contributed, supported, and believed in this initiative. Your efforts are truly making a difference.
