Itä-Suomen yliopiston LUMA-keskus kannustaa lapsia ja nuoria luonnontieteiden, matematiikan ja teknologian pariin, tukee ja auttaa opettajia niiden opettamisessa sekä vahvistaa tutkimuspohjaista opetuksen kehittämistyötä. Sen tehtävänä on edistää matemaattisten ja luonnontieteellisten alojen kouluopetusta, lisätä oppilaiden ja vanhempien kiinnostusta näihin tieteenaloihin sekä kehittää opettajien
sisällöllisiä ja pedagogisia taitoja. Toiminnallaan LUMA-hanke edistää koululaitosten, yliopiston ja elinkeinoelämän välistä yhteistyötä. Itä-Suomen yliopiston LUMA-hanke tarjoaa toiminta-alustan toteuttaa erilaisia hankkeita, kokeilla uutta ja perustaa erilaisia hankkeita. LUMA stands for natural sciences ("luonnontieteet" in Finnish) and mathematics ("matematiikka" in Finnish). The University of Eastern Finland LUMA project operates within the Faculty of Science and Forestry at the University of Eastern Finland. The LUMA project aims to
