𝐅𝐨𝐧𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐥 𝐋𝐥𝐨𝐩 - 𝐒𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟗𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔

Good news on the day was that the hollow tining carried out by the course was just mildly irritating and not a complete putting disaster. Other than that the course was in quite good shape. All 16 players turned up, eventually, and we were able to tee off a little early as we found out there was a 40 minute window of empty tee times in front of us. Warm sunny weather with a little breeze was perfect for our competition off the Blue Tees but no Ladies playing today was a little disappointing.
However, the results are as follows;

First place went to Pete Smith with 32pt
In Second place was George Chisholm with 31pts
𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐆𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭
With 36pts Kev Reid who was not just best guest but topped the leaderboard

Hole 8 was Steve Thorpe
Hole 17, a straight 130mtrs, defeated everyone with nobody finding it.

The prize giving. Presided over by our Honorary President Cliff Morton went off well in a surprisingly restrained manner for Cliff and we all enjoyed the very tasty tapas prepared by Sue & Mercedes. Many thanks to Glennis & Crystal for making sure we were all fed and topped up with cold drinks, and to the management team for their continued sponsorship and support.

Next month on the 26th September we're at New Sierra with a 9am 1st tee. The usual pack here is €70 for members and €75 for guests. There are 21 of the 28 available places filled already.

A nice surprise back at Drivers Bar was the coincidental appearance of our founder and retired President Harry Waters with Pat, his lovely lady, who were both looking really well. They were in with visiting family and it was a great treat to see them all.

𝐋𝐚𝐬 𝐑𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐚𝐬 - 𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚 𝐓𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐬 𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐞 - 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝟐𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔

Thank god for the nice cooling wind we had all day, it kept it bearable out there. We all played off the Blue and Red tees on a course in pretty good condition considering the recent weather. The Florida Variant of the Texas Scramble format was a bit of a gamble but it paid off. The pace of play was good and the format brought a difficult course into everyone's reach and I believe it was universally declared a success. Six teams competed on a stroke play basis less the team handicap and there were just over 12 points separating first from last.

𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝟔 were declared the winning team with a Net Score of 59.7.
Congratulations to John Sokoluk, Andy Robinson, Karlynn Sokoluk and Kathy Robinson.
𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝟑 were the worthy runners up with a Net Score of 60.35.
Congratulations also to Neil Taylor, Dean Mirfin, Doug Dorian, and Ross Gray.

Back at Drivers Bar & Bistro we were all heartily grateful for our cold beers and tasty Tapas.
We were very well looked after by Mags, Crystal and the whole team including the kitchen staff. We also are very grateful, as always, for the sponsorship and support of Drivers Bar & Bistro, thank you.

The prize giving ceremony was very ably carried out by our treasurer, Waye Theoblad, in a refreshingly calm and expletive free manner (lol, only teasing Cliff) .

Our next competition will be on Saturday 29th August at Font de Llop with the 1st tee at 10:00.

The committee thanks you all for turning out on a very hot day, we couldn't do it without you. Hopefully we'll see many of you next month.

𝐒𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐞 𝐥𝐚 𝐓𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞 - 𝟐𝟕𝐭𝐡 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔

Twenty players all present and correct turned up on a beautiful sunny day with little cloud and quite light wind. For a course nicknamed 'The Desert Course' the tees, fairways and greens were very green and receptive which helped to assist in a high scoring day and added to the overall enjoyment. There was one score over 40pts, Twelve scores over 30pts (2 at 38) and three over 25pts. As a result I set the SSS at 71 this time for our scoring calculations. The results are as follows;

2nd place went to Rob Hindle on countback with 33pts

Back at Drivers Bar and Bistro the cold beers and wines etc and the Tasty Tapas were very well received. Thanks to Glenis and the team for their sterling work in looking after us so well. After that our Honorary President Cliff Morton entertained us as usual while presenting the prizes

Our next Competition will be at Las Ramblas on the 25th July at 10am. I propose we play a Florida Texas Scramble (Blue tees, men. Red tees ladies). This will even out the fairness of the 18 tee shots and to make sure everyone gets to contribute in the score for each hole. I will circulate the Format and Rules for this under separate cover in the next day or two.

𝟐𝟕𝐭𝐡 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 - 𝐒𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 - 𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐞𝐞 𝟏𝟎:𝟎𝟔

I can tell you the course is in great condition at the moment as I played it in the RBL Charity Day event on Thursday 18th.
At the moment we have 19 names on the list (could really do with one more).
The names are as follows, Pete Smith, John Sarjant, Lynda Barrett, Al Barrett, Wayne Theobald, Doug Dorian, Paul Willows, Peter Podester, Sally Croft, Andy Robinson, Roy Hindle, Rob Hindle, Tommy Smith, David Fraser, Denise Green, Ray Green, Bill Lee, Henry Gun-Why and Cliff Morton.
There are 28 Places reserved and the course is pestering me for final numbers. Members can book a spot online and there is plenty of opportunity to bring along a friend or family member. Guests/Non members can reply to this email and I will add you to the list.
The cost is €70 for members and €75 for non members. The price includes golf with a buggy, two Tapas back at Drivers Bar and prizes for the winners presented by our very own Cliff Morton (no relation to Simon).
GREEN FEES must be paid before 18:30 on Tuesday 23rd June. You can come to Drivers Bar on the 23rd between 5pm and 6:30pm where Wayne and I will be waiting to take your money. Alternatively you can pay at any time by putting your money in an envelope with 'Golf Money' and your name written on it and leave it behind the bar in Drivers. You could also pay either me or Wayne if you see us around, at any time.

𝐀𝐥𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩 - 𝐒𝐚𝐭 𝟐𝟕𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐚𝐲

It certainly was a day to remember or forget depending on your point of view. We started off by paying for only 12 players. We teed off on time with only 10 players. We finished after 4hrs 45mins with only 8 players. We were short on numbers for a few very varied reasons and finished with even less as a couple of players fell victim to the roasting temperatures on a very still day. The temperature display on the putting green showed 36 degrees and with hardly a breath of wind it felt a lot hotter, especially in the sun.
The course was in very good condition with just the usual moans about no sand in the bunkers. The greens were like lightning but were also very true. It just took a long time to figure them out. The conditions dictated the level of scoring as shown by the results.

This was a family affair with Kathy Robinson for the Ladies and Andy Robinson for the Men.

After an hour long drive back to Drivers Bar & Bistro we were all gagging for the gloriously cold drinks served up by Chrystal and Glenis. We also very much enjoyed Sue's tapas and thank the team for looking after us so well. Also many thanks to Mags, Glenis, Pete and Alan for their continued support and sponsorship. The prizes were presented by our Honorary President Cliff Morton who did a sterling job even though he was severely injured and didn't let us forget it lol.

𝐍𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 we're at Saurines de la Torre on the 27th with the 1st tee off at 10:06. There are 13 signed up at the moment with 28 places booked so plenty of room for you and/or friends and family.

𝐋𝐚 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐚 - 𝟐𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐥 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔

Well, disappointing is an understatement to say the least. To play 12 of the 18 holes in the rain was not what we wanted. Fortunately for me I had looked at the clouds and put a waterproof jacket & trousers in the bag along with a spare glove and towels and how glad I was that I did. Conditions were pretty miserable at times, compounded by several fairways being closed off to buggies, puddles everywhere and boggy patches. We had 3 N/Rs as players walked off after 7 holes and went for a beer instead. However the more hardy and well prepared amongst us played on and overall I think most were glad they did.
Scoring was surprisingly steady considering the conditions and was as follows.

𝐖𝐞𝐭 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐒𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐩 - Even with 4 No-Returns and the final 2 groups getting to the course too late to enter predictions the total of balls lost in or touching water hazards was a hearty 119 balls. The lucky winner with a prediction of exactly 119 balls was Debs McGing who walked off with the €33 prize pot (sadly no offer of drinks all round, lol)

Back at Drivers Bar we were all glad to wolf down some hot and tasty tapas washed down with nice cold drinks. Many thanks to Suzie in the kitchen and Mags/Glenis and the team for looking after us so well. Also thanks to Mags, Pete, Glenis & Alan for their continued support and sponsorship. Rounding off proceedings the prizes were presented by our Honorary President, Cliff Morton, in his usual inimitable manner.
