Las tortugas marinas son un grupo de reptiles muy antiguo y fascinante. Las primeras tortugas marinas aparecieron durante el Jurásico, hace más de 150 millones de años, y las dos familias que existen en la actualidad (Dermochelyidae y Cheloniidae) ya estaban presentes hace más de 75 millones de años.
A pesar de haber sobrevivido a enormes cambios en el planeta, hoy se enfrentan a amenazas cada vez mayores: capturas accidentales, contaminación marina, pérdida de hábitats y cambio climático.
Por eso trabajamos cada día para darles una nueva oportunidad.
En colaboramos con el sector pesquero para rescatar ejemplares que aparecen en problemas en el Golfo de Cádiz. Tras el aviso al 112, las tortugas son trasladadas al CEGMA de Algeciras, donde reciben atención veterinaria especializada hasta estar listas para volver al mar.
Pero este proyecto va mucho más allá del rescate: también acercamos la conservación a la sociedad mediante actividades de educación ambiental, exposiciones y jornadas divulgativas 💙

Sea turtles are one of the oldest and most fascinating groups of reptiles on Earth. The first sea turtles appeared during the Jurassic period more than 150 million years ago, and the two families that still exist today (Dermochelyidae and Cheloniidae) were already established over 75 million years ago.
Despite surviving dramatic changes throughout Earth's history, they now face increasing threats such as accidental capture in fisheries, marine pollution, habitat loss, and climate change.
That is why we work every day to give them a second chance.
Through SOS Caretta, we collaborate closely with the fishing sector to rescue sea turtles found in distress in the Gulf of Cádiz. After fishermen alert the emergency services (112), the animals are transferred to the CEGMA recovery centre in Algeciras, where they receive specialized veterinary care until they are ready to return to the sea.
But this project goes far beyond rescue efforts. We also bring marine conservation closer to society through environmental education activities, travelling exhibitions,
