Sad news friends. Our big bouncy boy Basil didn't wake up yesterday morning.
He has been under the weather and was at the vets' on Wednesday and a follow up appointment on Tuesday had been arranged.
We think it was his heart and we're sure it was peaceful as he was still in a sleeping position.
Basil found us 5 or so years ago. We're fairly sure he was abandoned by hunters like so many of our dogs.
He was in a bad way health wise with nests of ticks, arthritis and was really thin.
With good veterinary care and lots of love he turned into a real character.
He was always wagging his tail and wanting to play.
He has bravely battled his deteriorating arthritis pain and stayed happy.
We will all miss him he was part of the family.

Hello friends. I've just had our monthly report from Teaming. we seem to have lost a contributor taking us down to 10.
If we lose another we will be sunk as we need 10 minimum to maintain our account.

El Arca Sanctuary. We are a small family run sanctuary in Alicante, Spain. We are self funding and get no help from any official organisations. What a rollercoaster of emotions today. It was a sad drive there due to the seriousness of the event but when we arrived tears turned to happy tears and goosebumps as we were overwhelmed by the turnout and the number of placards which was twice as many as last year.
As serious as the subject is there was a feeling of unity and a belief that we can achieve something together.
The attendance of galgos with their families was an illustration that these ex hunters make wonderful pets and added to a very positive atmosphere. It really brought it home that we need to get them the right to proper, humane protection.
We finished the day with Lesley representing Greyhounds In Need and her partner Paul in a cafe serving plant based 'street food' where we shared stories, tears and laughter but most of all reflected on a positive day.
