La Mesa Ministry

This week I shared about the DR and La Mesa at a Grand Rapids Christian elementary school. It was so fun!

Breast Cancer knows no country or language. Neither should awareness and treatment!

This is why we do what we do. Please give it a read!

Near the end of her life, one of my aunts was at a dinner table at the home of friends. During the dinner, she asked a pastor who was at the table, “What do you think heaven is like?” The pastor paused, looked around the table, and said, “I think it’s a lot like this, only with more people.” I love how a table invites us to know this, and how it calls us into a life that is not just for “someday” but is present here and now.

This Sunday is World Communion Sunday. In celebration and in hope, this blessing is for you. Every day.

AND THE TABLE WILL BE WIDE

And the table
will be wide.
And the welcome
will be wide.
And the arms
will open wide
to gather us in.
And our hearts
will open wide
to receive.

And we will come
as children who trust
there is enough.
And we will come
unhindered and free.
And our aching
will be met
with bread.
And our sorrow
will be met
with w**e.

And we will open our hands
to the feast
without shame.
And we will turn
toward each other
without fear.
And we will give up
our appetite
for despair.
And we will taste
and know
of delight.

And we will become bread
for a hungering world.
And we will become drink
for those who thirst.
And the blessed
will become the blessing.
And everywhere
will be the feast.

Fun to learn new recipes! Baking class in Crucero. Venezuelan Christmas bread filled with bacon, ham, olives, and raisins. Hopefully the Panadería will add it to our Christmas offerings!

Always a good day when it's a baking day! Leonely, one of my former English students, helped makes these lovely cookies for a Crucero community event tomorrow.

Our latest newsletter in which we celebrate the life of María.

My mom did not have an easy life, but she loved to laugh, was somewhat irreverant, and loved Jesus deeply.

I like to imagine María and Mom meeting in Heaven, where language is no barrier, filled with perfect joy, in the presence of their Savior.

If you came on a team, you met María and she made you part of her family.

Today our hearts are heavy as we lift up the family and loved ones of María who threw her arms around every stranger and made them feel welcomed. I will miss her laughter and love, and also her t**h pats!

Today is my 59th birthday. My 50s have been full of both beauty and brokeness. But through it all, God has been faithful, providing what we need.

For my birthday, would you consider a donation to help us serve others who live in both beauty and brokeness?

Also, as always, please post a photo that brings you Joy!
