🌱 BIG NEWS FOR EUROPE’S PEATLANDS! 🌍
Today, at the Conference , the European Peatlands Initiative officially launches. 🎉
Why does it matter?
Peatlands may cover only a small part of our planet, but healthy peatlands can:
🌍 store vast amounts of carbon
💧 support cleaner water
🦋 provide habitats for unique biodiversity
🌧️ help regulate floods and droughts
🤝 support sustainable livelihoods
And peatlands don’t stop at national borders.
Neither should our efforts to protect them.
The European Peatlands Initiative brings together governments, researchers, NGOs, landowners, farmers, businesses and other organisations to turn shared ambition into coordinated action across Europe.
But today isn’t only about launching an initiative.
It’s an invitation to build it together. 💚
📢 Organisations can now apply to become EPI members.
💬 Individuals can join the EPI Community Platform and connect with peatland practitioners across Europe.

An important part of the groundwork was made possible through the EUKI-funded “Building the EPI project”, implemented by Eurosite - the European Land Conservation Network together with us at Michael Succow Foundation, partner in the Greifswald Mire Centre, the European Landowners’ Organization (ELO) and CEEweb for Biodiversity.
