MONOM MONOM
Berlin’s Center for Spatial Sound. Home to the 4DSOUND system.

With the opening of Monom Studios at the historic Funkhaus Berlin, Berlin gains an experimental performance venue and state of the art spatial sound studio. At the heart of Monom Studios is the 4DSOUND system, brought to life by a collective of engineers and over 100 artists during a decade-long period of research, experimentation and public performances. This one-of-a-kind instrument immerses up

to 400 people inside 48 omnidirectional speakers suspended throughout the venue, extending to 9 powerful subs submerged beneath an acoustically transparent floor. Monom Studios commissions artist residencies and public performances that will explore the possibilities of spatial sound as an expressive medium. Beyond unprecedented real-time control over sounds parameters, 4DSOUND pioneers the harmonious integration with any and all interfaces – movement, light, virtual augmented reality, bio-feedback, metric or brainwave - providing an opportunity for artists to collaborate and combine sensory dimensions - in effect to compose, and perform a live ecosystem. Monom Studios will use this powerful integration as a summons to bring together not only sonic artists and musicians across genres and styles but also artists and technologists across disciplines

For our upcoming event on April 11 — TransCULT, we welcome Circadian, a Berlin-based tea atelier devoted to Gyokuro, Japan’s most prestigious shade-grown green tea.

Founded in Berlin and produced in Funkhaus, Circadian translates centuries of Japanese cultivation into a contemporary beverage ritual. Gyokuro is grown on only 0.01% of Japan’s landmass and was historically reserved for the imperial court, prized for its deep umami and layered complexity.

Working directly with multigenerational farmers in Japan, Circadian transforms these leaves through an 18-hour cold extraction process, creating pure, unsweetened, non-carbonated teas that reveal the full spectrum of the plant without added flavour or preservatives.

During TransCULT, Circadian will serve three signature cold brew expressions:

Ocean Umami — full leaf
Ironwood Inlet — roasted stem
Cocoa Finish — steamed stem

Three interpretations of the same rare plant.
An invitation to slow down and reset the senses.

On April 11th, 2026, don’t miss TransCULT — an immersive sound experience inspired by The Sacred Night by Tahar Ben Jelloun.

Sound, voice, and memory move freely through space. What unfolds is neither concert nor theatre, but a walk-in world of listening: a bodiless performance where narration, music, and noise drift around the audience, shaping perception from all directions.

Developed by composer Mischa Tangian and producer RUSNAM, performed by the transcultural Babylon ORCHESTRA and spataliazed live with MONOM, the work reimagines the story of Zahra — born a woman, raised as a son — whose life shifts at the moment of her father’s death. A story of liberation and loss emerges without actors on stage, carried instead by instruments, voices, and spatial movement.

Traditional North African sound languages meet elegiac melodies, electronic textures, and ritual-like repetitions. Performers Nesrine (voice / cello) and Momo Djender (voice) guide the audience into the space, alongside an embedded narration by Rim Mekkaoui in German, French, and Arabic. Fragmented scenes, associative dreams, and sonic encounters evoke Marrakesh’s markets, memories of the Maghreb, and a shifting terrain where myth and reality blur — tracing questions of female identity within modern Islam and European society.

An invitation to listen differently and to step into a story that unfolds through sound, space, and memory.

Philip & Daphne is an immersive art collective formed by pianist and sound artist Philip-Jongdo An and media artist Daphne-Jiyeon Jang. Together, they merge sound, light, and form into time-spatial installations that evoke a sense of existence beyond sensory perception. Their works unfold as living environments, where resonance and image converse as one breath.

‘s practice extends the tradition of the piano beyond its physical form. Through spatial sound and media technologies, he transforms the embodied act of performance into architectures of collective emotion. His background as an acclaimed classical pianist informs a sensitivity to gesture and silence — elements that become sculptural within space.

’s work emerges from a sculptural foundation, dissolving the line between the tangible and the immaterial. Through her concepts of Moving Sculpture and Digital Re-Unification, she transforms light into structure, crafting installations that hover between presence and disappearance. Her visual language draws from myth, memory, and technology to explore the fragility of existence.

08/10/2025

On November 8th we invite you to enter The Breath Between, a new audiovisual installation by Philip&Daphne, in collaboration with MONOM Studios and .

At its core, the work unfolds through spatial sound, projection mapping, and Hypervision holograms.
The Breath Between is an immersive audiovisual installation where sound and light share one breath.
The work begins with live piano recordings of Schumann’s Kreisleriana, performed by Philip-Jongdo An and expanded through the 4DSOUND system into a multidimensional sphere of resonance — where the intimate touch of the piano transforms into architectures of collective emotion that surround the audience.

Daphne-Jiyeon Jang’s visual language extends sculptural thought into immaterial form — projection mapping and Hypervision holograms drift through space like emotional traces, weaving fragility and myth into light.

At its heart, The Breath Between reflects on the layered and paradoxical nature of love — as hope, longing, wound, and silence — unfolding as a living structure between presence and absence, the individual and the collective.

The work lasts around 15 minutes.
