Meet "Tankwart" - the Nitrous Oxide and Nitrogen fueling station for Space Team Aachen’s Hopper project.

Here at Project Hopper, we’re busy building one of the most ambitious student-built rockets in Europe .....

And we’re hiring!

Even though the first video makes it look like we’re all about Tankwart (we sort of are) we’re hiring for many diverse roles. If you have clear interest and excitement to work in the space industry, reach out to us and apply!

You can also find out more about the different positions at👇

https://www.spaceteamaachen.de/join

or you can meet at the Tag der Studentischen Initiative on May 12th!

We also thank our tool sponsor for providing high-quality tools that are essential to the precise assembly of Tankwart and the Hopper rocket.

Meet Scorpius, Space Team Aachen's own Mars Rover!

Project Scorpius was founded in 2023 with the goal to build an autonomous Mars vehicle to compete in international university rover competitions. After building a first prototype of Scorpius in 2024, we've been working hardly on the official Version 1. The body and locomotion system are now production-ready (check out slide 2 👀), and we’re starting the manufacturing process.

For the competitions we also need

- A robotic arm and a drill that can be attached to. the rover's body
- Safe and efficient software
- Reliable onboard electronics

No worries, all of the aforementioned challenges are already worked on, but we still need more support. We’re looking for passionate people to join our team and help turn Scorpius into a fully functional Mars rover.

Check out our open positions and become part of the mission!🚀

From Sketches to (almost) Space,

TRACER, our scientific experiment, successfully launched on the REXUS 35 rocket last March, reaching an apogee of 75km. Short for “TRanspiration Cooling Experiment Revisited”, TRACER aimed to demonstrate the viability of transpirational cooling and refine the CFD modeling of the effect.

The experiment was conducted within the REXUS framework, a student program jointly organized by the DLR and SNSA and supported by ESA. In the span of two years TRACER was conceived and successively improved by various reviews held at DLR locations in front of experts. On March 10th , our hard work culminated in a successful launch from Esrange, Sweden.

During the launch one cable connection developed a loose connection resulting in a decrease in data points, especially impacting the temperature recording. All other systems performed nominally though. In the next weeks we will analyze data and present our findings at the ESA PAC-Symposium in Trondheim.

Congratulations to our fellow students involved in REXUS 35/36. It was a blast to work alongside you. A massive thank you to the organizations that made this possible: DLR, ZARM, MORABA, ESA, and SSC Space. Finally, thank you to our supporters at home: HGD RWTH Institute, IST RWTH Institute, the Collective Incubator, and Space Team Aachen e.V. 🚀

We're excited to announce that test operations have begun with our self-developed Mini Testbench, a versatile system designed for rapid subcomponent validation.

Current capabilities:
-Injector cold flow characterization
-Torch igniter qualification testing
-Short-duration hot fire tests

We've completed characterization of our first swirl injector batch and are now manufacturing improved iterations for hot fire tests. More technical updates coming soon.🙌

A huge thank you to our great partners who make this work possible:

- Powering our custom-built Hopper GCS mission control software with their Mini PC. The compact form factor is perfect for our mobile test operations.

- Providing the aluminum profile system that gives us the flexibility to quickly reconfigure our test stand as test articles evolve. More builds including a mobile fuelling system and manufacturing systems are currently underway.
