"Dear friends,
As the Coalition Against the Far Right, Fascism, and Racism, we are here today to honor the memory of Cristian Ndjondo and to express our sincere condolences to his family, his friends, and his community.
His sudden and tragic death fills us with sorrow. This is a loss that cannot simply be treated as another incident, but as the loss of a human life that leaves behind pain and serious questions.
Cristian was a person who, like many migrants and refugees, had been forced to leave his country in search of safety and a better life. Cyprus, as a country that has experienced displacement, refugeehood, and the pain of loss, knows very well what it means to be uprooted from one’s homeland. For this reason, it has an even greater responsibility to treat every person with respect and humanity.
As a Coalition, we believe that there are serious questions that arise regarding the circumstances of his death, which must be investigated with seriousness and transparency. In any case, the protection of human life must be the highest priority of all state authorities, and especially of the police.
No procedure, no operation, and no condition can be placed above human life. Authorities have the responsibility to act in a way that ensures the safety and dignity of all people, without exception.
At the same time, as a Coalition, we cannot fail to note that in such moments, discourse often emerges that targets people based on their origin or migration status. We firmly stand against this, and in favor of solidarity, respect, and human dignity.
We stand with the family and loved ones of Cristian Ndjondo, and we honor his memory with respect and dignity.
May he rest in peace."
