"Migration is a fundamental human right. To welcome someone is to allow them to rebuild their life with dignity and safety."

These words belong to Fatima Saleme, originally from Syria, who arrived in Brazil one year ago after fleeing her home country. She spoke them in a room full of government representatives, civil society leaders, and fellow migrants and refugees. And she moved everyone there.

Last week, the Regional Trustbuilding Programme for the Americas (PRCC-A) brought together 32 special guests at the Hélio Oiticica Municipal Arts Centre in the heart of Rio de Janeiro, for a day of deep listening, exchange, and learning.

Brazil is home to over 2 million immigrants and refugees, the majority from Latin America and Africa. Opening borders is only the beginning. Structures must be built, bureaucratic barriers broken down, and real opportunities for dignified work created.

Fatima's words capture exactly why this work matters, and why the regional trustbuilding team continues to strengthen the network, weaving a future of collective healing and social justice.
