🎃🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ Thank You, Riverside Secondary School Stingers! 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🎃

For many years, the Riverside Secondary School Stingers have been dedicated supporters of The Kidney Foundation of Canada through their annual Halloween Fun Run, and we are incredibly grateful for their continued partnership.

This year, the Stingers once again chose The Kidney Foundation as the beneficiary of this fantastic event, raising an amazing $3,000 to support local kidney patients and their families. These funds help provide vital programs, services, education, advocacy, and support for those living with kidney disease throughout our community.

The commitment shown by the students, staff, volunteers, and participants is a wonderful example of community spirit in action. Year after year, Riverside Secondary School continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people affected by kidney disease.

From all of us at The Kidney Foundation of Canada, thank you for your longstanding support and for helping us provide hope and assistance to those who need it most. 💙

What is Diabetic Kidney Disease?

Diabetic Kidney Disease (DKD) is a serious complication of both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes that can lead to kidney damage and, in some cases, kidney failure. Up to 50% of Canadians living with diabetes will experience signs of kidney damage during their lifetime.

Risk factors include family history and genetic predisposition, high blood pressure, poor blood sugar control and diet and lifestyle factors.

While DKD can affect anyone with diabetes, certain communities face a higher risk, including Indigenous, South Asian, African, and Asian populations.

End Diabetic Kidney Disease Campaign

The Kidney Foundation of Canada is committed to changing the future of kidney health. Through the End Diabetic Kidney Disease Campaign, the Foundation will invest $1 million into research focused on preventing diabetic kidney disease and improving outcomes for patients. Through a partnership with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, every dollar raised will be matched, doubling the impact of this critical investment.

By supporting this campaign, you are helping advance research, improve treatment options, and bring hope to the millions of Canadians affected by diabetes and kidney disease.

Make a donation today and help end diabetic kidney disease:

Together, we can create a future where diabetic kidney disease is prevented, detected earlier, and treated more effectively.

Peer Support Group Spotlight: Paediatric Caregivers

Anyone supporting a child living with kidney disease will find this a warm and welcoming environment.

Led by parents just like you, this group helps parents cope with the challenges of supporting their child while staying well themselves.

Group participant Kristen says "When my daughter received her diagnosis, I had no experience with kidney disease or rare childhood diseases. Finding The Kidney Foundation and then the Paediatric Caregivers’ Support Group has been very helpful. It has been wonderful to meet other caregivers in a similar path and to have the opportunity to share and learn from each other. Knowing our family isn’t alone in this journey and that others are there for support has been reassuring."

The next Paediatric Caregivers Support Group takes place on November 12. Find the calendar here: kidney.ca/supportmeetings
