We are deep into rehearsals preparing for our Greatest Hits Volume 2 concert to take place at 2 pm, Sunday May 31st at WDSS. If you thought the March concert was good, wait until you hear THIS music! This show will be heavy on very well known musicals and movies. Have you ever heard of movies such as Star Wars or Indiana Jones? How about heavy hitters from the world of musicals such as Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Les Miserable, and Phantom of the Opera? Do you like the music of Leonard Cohen or ABBA? Well, you’re going to hear all of that plus more! And we’ll have an exciting special announcement for our followers at the concert that we think you’ll LOVE. Please find a few friends who’ve never attended one of our concerts so that we can convince them that this is not like anything they may remember about concert bands. This group is dynamic, exciting, and plays music you WANT to hear, not music we think you SHOULD hear.

Thank you to all of our followers for supporting us at our WCB: Greatest Hits Volume 1 show on March 29th. Without question, this was our finest offering to date, BUT…..we’ve only just begun! We are already back to work preparing for Greatest Hits: Volume 2 and the band is pumped to offer more of our favourite music from our first 10 years of existence. In meeting many people on the street, comments such as “I thought this was just the high school band” followed by “ I won’t miss another concert after hearing this!” let us know that we still have work to do in convincing the people of Wallaceburg just how professional this band sounds. Surprisingly, we may have more supporters from outside of Wallaceburg than from the community itself! If people are driving here from a distance, they obviously hold this band in high regard. Greatest Hits: Volume 2 is going to make you smile. We’ll reveal some of the music we are currently “re-imagining”” in a few weeks, but in the meantime, be sure to have Sunday afternoon May 31st on your calendar….. regardless of how nice the weather is, or isn’t. DO NOT MISS THIS CONCERT!

And after Greatest Hits: Volume 2, we’ll have one more super special concert for you on Sunday October 4th as we conclude our non-Christmas 10th Anniversary Greatest Hits series of concerts. Why will it be super special? We’ll tell you on May 31st and it’s VERY exciting news!

THEN….get ready for our Greatest Christmas Hits show. And this year…..WE’RE BACK AT THE CAPITOL THEATRE on Sunday December 6th!!! Don’t miss the great acoustics, comfortable seating, great sight lines, and most importantly…..the best Christmas music we’ve presented over our first 10 years, re-imagined, and presented by our finest lineup of musicians to-date!

Our band has a “Members Only” page where we share internal matters amongst ourselves and I have lots to say about our rehearsals. This, our public page is not the forum where we share internal matters but today, I have some very exciting internal news that we must share. John MacFadden hails from Petrolia and joined the trumpet section of our WCB about a year ago. My most recent Arts column that appears in the Courier Press and Sydenham Current featured an up-close expose of John’s musical life because I found it to be most interesting. While the people of Wallaceburg won’t be familiar with John, I have to say that we are incredibly fortunate to have John join with us as he’d never chosen to play in a concert band before. His background is in the ultra-competetive world of Drum and Bugle Corps, now known as DCI (Drum Corps International) In his prime, John was a lead player, (the one’s able to scream out the ultra-difficult extremely high notes and are often the featured soloists) and has Canadian, US, and World Championships on his resume! John and I are the same age and have become fast friends. Today, he was informed that he has been selected for induction into the “Buglers Hall of Fame”, the ceremony to take place in Corning New York on April 11th! It’s difficult to express what an incredible honour this is and to put this into perspective, he’s being inducted in the same class, alongside the late, great, Chuck Mangione! (You know who Chuck is. I’ll include a link to his most famous song below. Just listen to the first bit and you’ll know!) This puts John in phenomenal, world-class company and our band couldn’t be more happy for him and proud that he is now one of US, Another reason you should be coming out to our next concert on March 29th. Poster to be released tomorrow with all the info you need. CONGRATULATIONS JOHN!

Here's a question....What does the music from Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter, Jersey Boys, Les Mis, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, The Beatles, ABBA, The Jungle Book, Stevie Wonder, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Aretha Franklin, The Lion King, MacArthur Park, Robin Hood, James Bond, Toto, Ian Tyson, Gordon Lightfoot, Back to the Future & Phantom of the Opera have in common? It's all music that we've presented in concerts over our first ten years! And most importantly....we're thrilled to be playing it all again....plus lots more! (remember The Devil Went Down to Georgia? Classical Gas? Baker Street? Hallelujah? Let There Be Peace On Earth? Gabriels Oboe? + +) We've added an additional concert to our typical season just so that we can get it all in. Over our next 3 concerts we will present the Greatest Hits of our first ten years! We polled our members what they enjoyed playing the most and we have an INCREDIBLE line-up of music that will be presented on March 29th, May 31st and Oct 4th. The only thing is, you'll need to catch all three concerts to hear it all as we're keeping what we'll present at each concert a surprise. You will even have an opportunity to choose some of the music we will play in each concert so you too can have some "say in what we play"!

And next Christmas....we're going to have incredible difficulty choosing our favourite scores as there have been so many of them!

Lastly, we have decided to present all of our concerts as Sunday Matinee's this year, and we MAY have a few other surprises up our sleeves that you haven't experienced to-date! Do you think we're excited?
