We’re getting closer to the final concert of our 10th Anniversary Season so I’d like to bring some perspective to what the Wallaceburg Concert Band has brought to our community and surrounding area over the past 10 years. When we started, there were about 25 musicians who came out to help get us going. Most hadn’t touched a wind instrument since high school. For some, that was a 40 year gap! We weren’t particularly skilled at that point, but we performed a private Christmas concert at the Oaks Retirement Village that first December. Our members have worked incredibly hard to hone their skills since then, and with each successive concert, we’ve been able to present more and more challenging music and better scores. We’ve had SOME turnover but our numbers have grown to just over 60 musicians today! That is a very large band for a community of this size. The quality of music these musicians have turned out has also attracted some incredibly gifted musicians from Chatham, Sarnia, and points all around us. Our group has evolved into a very highly skilled band presenting professional quality music that attracts great crowds. But the band has also served as a spawning ground for many other groups. The Wallaceburg Brass Quintet, flute trio Dolce Argento, the Back Row Boys low brass ensemble, the Brass Factory Big Band, and a variety of other ensembles and soloist’s have evolved from the membership of our bands. The groups all operate independent of the WCB, but it’s where they all originate from, and we’re all best of friends. Music is now flourishing in our community. This season we’ve been presenting our favourite music from our first 10 years and it’s been a blast BUT…..we have one more in our plans and that is of course, our annual Christmas show….this year at the beautiful Capitol Theatre in Chatham! Those who’ve attended any of our Christmas shows knows that we put a little bit of extra ooomph into them and they become……magical. Based on the size of the crowd at our Oct 4th concert, this one should be packed to the rafters! This is the perfect time to come see us for the first time …..or your 10th time. Our concert set-up is quite complex and labour intensive so we are only going to present ONE Christmas concert this year! Don’t miss it,
