Since 2021, we've supported families throughout Castlegar, Trail, Rossland, Fruitvale, Salmo, the Junction area, and surrounding communities through our Adopt-a-Family for the Holidays program. In 2024, we became a registered non-profit, and we're now working toward expanding our support year-round.

Our goal is to help local families not only during the holidays, but also through programs such as birthday support, community event access, emergency relief, and other initiatives that help reduce financial barriers.

This giveaway helps us grow awareness, build our mailing list, and connect with people who believe every family deserves a little extra support when they need it most.

Great things to do at silver city days for free ❤️

Silver City Days has a lot going on, and not all of it comes with a price tag 💙

Here are some great free ways to take it in. Check out Trail Silver City Days’s page for more specifics on the below free events!

Wednesday
• Seniors Dance, 2–4

Friday
• Live music on the Esplanade stage, 5–9:30

Saturday
• Parade at 11 (bring a bag for candy)
• KidZone at the Memorial Centre (Victoria View Room), 12–4, with games and activities
• Live music on the Esplanade stage, 5–9:30
• Fireworks Saturday night

Sunday
• Family Day activities and entertainment including Powwow Mash-Up! Show by Wild Mint Arts at 1:30

All weekend
• Exploring the Food Fair and downtown (lots to see even if you’re just browsing)
• Festival atmosphere all weekend long

We want this weekend to feel welcoming and accessible, and we’ll keep working to build that out every year. In the meantime, there’s plenty of ways to be part of it without spending much at all.

This past holiday season, we had the privilege of supporting 6 families in Salmo and RDCK Area G—and we were truly blown away by the strength and spirit of this community. ❤️

During a recent ReDi Grant meeting, we were introduced to “Dot Day,” an incredible initiative where community members come together to have a direct say in how local grant funding is distributed. What an inspiring example of collaboration and community-driven decision-making.

Salmo is filled with passionate, dedicated groups creating opportunities for people of all ages. From youth programs to activities for seniors, this is a community that shows up, supports one another, and stays deeply connected.

It’s an honour to serve this area and be even a small part of such a vibrant and caring community.

The end of 2025 is here, 118 families have been blessed with a jollier Christmas, our team has shopped until we dropped, and now we’re in that week between Christmas and New Year’s Eve where we can breathe.

A great moment to reflect on the smile cookie campaign, which raised us $3,362.00 to help our cause ❤️❤️❤️ thank you MacMillan family for your continued support to our program. We appreciate you guys so much.

Hi all! We got an emergency family sign up this morning. We have already started shopping internally, but we are looking for donations to support their hamper for shopping, grocery gift card for liberty foods or no frills, and take-out gift cards from the Fruitvale area. We are waiting on details of what the family needs most for support right now so more details may follow ❤

Wow everyone what a success! Sponsee sign ups officially closed, still looking for a few sponsors. If we get every family currently signed up sponsored, it will be 114 families helped this year. An unbelievable feat by an unbelievably generous community. We changed a lot of peoples holidays and we could not be prouder. Thank you everyone.
