The story of the Canadian Council of Muslim Women begins in 1982 when a group of dynamic and devoted Muslim women from across the country congregated in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Led by the late Dr. Lila Fahlman, these women sought to mobilize their passion for social justice and faith in order to enrich their communities and work towards the common good of Canadian society. This inaugural meeting led to the establishment of what is now known as CCMW and for the past 30 years its proud and accomplished roster of members have achieved and continue to achieve great milestones for Muslim Women and Canada’s multicultural landscape. A highly diverse organization, CCMW is firmly committed to the overarching vision of improving the status of women and empowering Muslim Women to remain true to their Islamic heritage and Canadian identity.

2026 Women Who Inspire Recipient Spotlight: Dr. Ndeye Dieynaba Ndiaye

Professor Ndeye Dieynaba Ndiaye is an regular Professor of Law at the Faculty of Political Science and Law and Director of Graduate Law Programs. As Director of the Observatory on International Migration, Refugees, Stateless Persons, and Asylum (OMIRAS), she leads this research group on human mobility using an interdisciplinary—or even multidisciplinary—approach. Ms. Ndiaye is also a member of the Quebec Bar. She holds a doctorate in law from the Faculty of Law at Université Laval (Quebec, Canada); her doctoral research focused on the impact of efforts to combat irregular migration on the rights of migrants in countries of origin or transit.

Pre Ndeye Dieynaba Ndiaye est professeure agrégée de droit à la faculté des sciences politiques et juridiques, Directrice des programmes d'études de cycles supérieurs en droit. Directrice de l'Observatoire sur les migrations internationales, les réfugiés, les apatrides et l'asile (OMIRAS), elle dirige ce groupe de recherche sur les mobilités humaines suivant une dimension interdisciplinaire voire multidisciplinaire. Mme Ndiaye est aussi membre du Barreau du Québec. Dieynaba est docteure en droit de la Faculté de droit de de l’Université Laval, Québec, Canada qui porte sur l’impact de la lutte contre les migrations irrégulières sur les droits des migrants dans les pays d’origine ou de transit.
