The International Day of the Girl Child is observed annually on October 11th which celebrates the rights, potential, and achievements of girls around the world. It also raises awareness of the unique challenges girls face, including gender discrimination, limited access to education and healthcare, and gender-based violence.

The day calls on governments, communities, and individuals to take action to ensure every girl has the opportunity to learn, grow, lead, and shape her own future.

🌸 Celebrating Women’s History Month 🌸

This October, we’re celebrating the women whose courage, compassion, and dedication helped shape the history of Rosalie Hall.

Our story begins with Marie-Rosalie Cadron-Jetté, who, in the 1840s, pioneered compassionate care for young pregnant women who were often facing stigma, isolation, and limited support. Her vision led to the founding of the Misericordia Sisters, whose commitment to caring for young mothers and their children helped lay the foundation for the services we provide today.

More than a century later, that legacy continues. 💜

At Rosalie Hall, we remain committed to creating a safe, supportive, and welcoming place where young parents and their children can heal, grow, learn, and build brighter futures together.

This Women’s History Month, we honour the women who came before us—and the women today who continue to make a difference in the lives of families in our community. 🌷

Today, we pause to honour the survivors of residential schools, remember the children who never returned home, and stand with their families and Indigenous communities.

At Rosalie Hall, we wear orange as a symbol of remembrance, respect, and our commitment to the truth that Every Child Matters.

May today be an opportunity to listen, learn, reflect, and deepen our commitment to reconciliation. We stand together in support of a future built on respect, understanding, compassion, and justice. 🧡

Interested in learning more about how your child learns, grows, and connects through play and everyday interactions? 💜 Join us for Make the Connection, a FREE 7-week parent-child program for young parents ages 29 & under with babies and toddlers (birth–3 years)!

Together, we'll explore how the simple things you already do—offering love, safety, play, and connection—can have a big impact on your child's development and your relationship with them. 💕

One of the popular programs we offer at Rosalie Hall is Voices Informed By Each-other, better known as VIBE. This six-week program runs bi-weekly throughout the year, inviting clients to share a warm meal, connect with other young families, and take part in meaningful conversations and learning on topics that matter most to them. At the end of each two-hour evening session, families also receive free groceries through our FoodShare program. Our hope is that participants leave with food, support, and a stronger sense of connection and belonging. During our Summer VIBE session, participants expressed interest in creative, social, and educational activities.

In July, we partnered with local female entrepreneur Laideen Thomas of Laideen & Co. Laideen Thomas - L&Co. Financial Group, who led an engaging workshop on developing a healthy financial mindset. Clients learned practical budgeting strategies aligned with their goals and explored the home-buying process through simple, accessible steps. Laideen also encouraged participants to approach their financial journeys with self-compassion, drawing on her own experiences as a young mother to connect authentically with our community.

In August, participants used their final two sessions to create vision boards with images, stickers, and words that reflected their personal goals, aspirations, and the positive steps they hope to take moving forward.

Financial Group, Toronto Public Health, and WoodGreen Community Services for contributing to our Summer VIBE program. Your support helps young families envision new possibilities and continue their journey toward confidence, empowerment, and success.
