Record Ridge isn't just a hillside—it's a rare high-elevation grassland ecosystem, home to unique wildlife, a plethora of biodiversity like hundreds of plant species, endangered species, old growth forests, part of the Seven Summits trail, and a community that cares deeply about its future. ​It’s not a coincidence it was nationally designated as a Key Biodiversity Areas.

Today marks a pivotal moment in the fight to protect Record Ridge's irreplaceable grassland ecosystem and the communities of Rossland, Paterson, and Big Sheep Creek:

The Save Record Ridge Action Committee (SRRAC) is in BC Supreme Court **right now** seeking a stay to halt construction of a proposed open-pit magnesium mine until the courts can rule on whether the project should require a full environmental assessment.

Why this matters: Once clearing, blasting, and excavation begin, the damage to Record Ridge's precious red-listed grasslands—home to threatened species and essential biodiversity—cannot be undone. This hearing is our chance to ensure irreversible harm isn't done before the courts have their say.

SRRAC has spent months preparing for this moment, building a case with over 10,000 pages of legal materials, expert reports, and evidence—all made possible by community support.

For this week's edition of Wildlife Wednesday on this July full moon, what better living being of Record Ridge to showcase than this tarantula-related arachnid ya?!

Introducing a Mygalomorph species called the Pacific folding-door spider. 🕷

Why the name of folding-door you ask? It has to do with the way they construct the door of their burrows and the construction design in place that opens that door to catch prey. 😮

Mindblowing right?! And apparently they are pretty shy and spend most of their time in their burrow so this encounter was lucky. ✨️

1-800 on a scale of 1 to 10 how much do you love that section of the Seven Summits trail riding through the Record Ridge Grasslands though? 🚲

10? Yeah that's what we thought!!

Not only its unique and beautiful, it's also nationally designated as a Key Biodiversity Area. 🌼

Let Minister Neill and Minister Davidson know that this area deserves extra scrutiny and care, and that it should be protected. There is only less than 1% of these grasslands left in BC and only less than 1% of that are protected. 🌿
