Prairie PuppetSLAM Cabaret #4 Artist Feature #9:

Mooky Cornish has been working professionally as a clown since the age of 15. She was one of two featured clowns in Cirque du Soleil’s Varekai and has also performed at such prestigious venues as London’s Royal Albert Hall, San Francisco’s Palace of Fine Arts and the Sydney Opera House. Most recently Cornish was part of the cast in La Soirée, a cabaret/variety show at the South Bank Big Top in London, England.

Prairie PuppetSLAM Cabaret #4 Artist Feature #8:

William Bessai-Saul is kid-cartoonist who is a little green but has a lot of moxy. Gerald Saul is a filmmaker, educator, family man, and the worst puppeteer of his generation. Together, they will present Murder on the Retroactive Interference Express.

Prairie PuppetSLAM Cabaret #4 Artist Feature #7:

Kris Alvarez is a theatre artist + a Regina monologue. She enjoys a good laugh & a great story. This fall, Kris eagerly steps into a new role as an artist-in-residence in her Heritage area neighbourhood with a Common Weal Community Arts program, Respond to Racism.

Kris is passionate about her current contributions to Curtain Razors! Besides having been a part of the Bad Blood cast, she is actively involved as an Artistic Associate with the Board of Directors and is in rehearsals for the company’s October production.

After the successes of her show this past spring, Kris continues to build on What Kind of Brown Are You? – A project inspired by her experiences ‘growing up brown’ in 1980s Regina and driven by Kris engaging the community in dialogue around race and identity in Saskatchewan.

She is over-the-moon excited to have the company’s support for the next installment of the project, Burnt Sienna with Kris Alvarez – a talk show/variety show “with a little more colour” presented as part of Curtain Razors’ Moveable Feast 2018-19 series at the Artesian this November!

Ben Schneider is an emerging theatre artist based in Regina who in his own practice, enjoys exploring physical theatre, dance, and collective creation. Ben’s training has focused primarily on theatre creation as a student of the Globe Theatre School. Select credits include: Paper (2016 - Schumiatcher Sandbox Series); A Christmas Carol (2017 - Globe Theatre).

Prairie PuppetSLAM Cabaret #4 Artist Feature #5:

Sarah Bergbusch is an actor, puppeteer, and improviser from Regina, SK. She has trained and performed internationally as a puppeteer in Prague, Czech Republic. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Women and Gender Studies from the University of Regina. She spent her summer performing with Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan in The Merry Wives of Windsor and Titus A. Puppet Revenge. Her theatrical interests include devising and physical theatre as well as puppetry. Upcoming, Sarah will be performing in the new play Carmen Angel, directed by Judy Wensel and Joey Tremblay.

Lorena Valentina Leal is a vibrant artist living in Regina, SK. She explores the mediums of beading, dance, visual arts, fashion, crafting, clowning, and pom poms! Lorena hosts Crafterina Jams at the Creative City Centre - an opportunity for people to come craft together and share inspiration.

Prairie PuppetSLAM Cabaret Artist Feature #3:

Stop by the Prairie PuppetSLAM Cabaret #4 before 8pm, grab a drink and create a Thimble Theatre Friend. Craft session lead by Margaret Bessai.
Margaret is a Regina-based writer and visual artist. Her writing on contemporary visual art has been published nationally. From 2004-2007, she hosted a weekly one hour interview on the arts for Community Radio, with Carle Steel. She is a founding member of the Regina Collage Collective, which has exhibited together since 2008. She has served as Visual Art Coordinator for the Cathedral Village Arts Festival since 2009 and was Festival Chair in 2012. As a core member of Regina Artist Trading Card Collective, established in 2005, she has developed and delivered workshops, coordinated planning, and co-curated No Story Too Small to Trade, an exhibition of local and international ATCs for the Dunlop Art Gallery, which toured Saskatchewan with OSAC in 2013. Her current research investigates the domestic sphere, finding humour in everyday life and the personal in history.

Christina Persson is a musti-disciplinary artist born and raised in Regina, SK. She explores many different mediums including live theatre, film, clown, improvisation, movement, music, painting, and 35mm photography. She is a big fan of all things quirky and is thrilled to be a part of the PuppetSLAM this year!

Prairie PuppetSLAM Cabaret #4 Artist Feature #1:

Belle Brown-McEwen is an emerging artist from Regina with a background in dance and improvisation. Belle fell in love with movement back in 2007 when she began dancing with FadaDance. As a member of the Senior Youth Company, she traveled to Taiwan (2012) and Denmark (2015) to take part in the Dance and the Child International Conference. In 2016, Belle danced in the Blanket Folding Project: a project directed by Johanna Bundon and Bee Pallomina to be showcased in the Stream of Dance Festival: New Works Regina. In high school, Belle discovered a love for theatre and improvisation. Her goal as an emerging artist is to provoke young and old through collaborative, multi-disciplinary performance art.

Belle is currently a teacher with FadaDance and the Globe Theatre School. She is so grateful to share her love for creation with other young people! When she’s not making art, she’s learning how to do business at the University of Regina’s Hill School of Business.
