Greetings All ~The Lions Club recent poster concerning the bottle shed was not directed at seasonal friends and neighbours who we feel confident would not include garbage and recycling in the alcohol container returns. Lions Club International is an inclusive local and international service organization - there is no us and them. The poster was a simple request to cottage / home owners, who invite visitors or renters to their place, to educate their guests as to what should be done with their garbage and recycling. The fact is the bottle shed donations during summer months include an enormous amount of garbage and recycling. The balance of the year is negligible by comparison. This is a small request from a group of dedicated volunteers who work hard at giving back to your community. So! In that spirit of inclusiveness, we cordially invite you to join the Lions and our incredible volunteers next Friday at 8:30 am at York Street’s bottle shed!

After a soggy weekend, Monday turned out to be a beautiful day for the Whitestone McKellar Lions Club's Bike Safety Rodeo at Whitestone Lake Central School. The students had a blast navigating their way through 8 obstacles, going over correct hand signals and learning about bike safety equipment including how to put on a bicycle helmet correctly! All participants received participation ribbons and the first, second and third place winners in each division received trophies.
At the end of the trophy presentations, we were delighted to give Principal Burrows a cheque supporting the breakfast program at the school. A BBQ with a ice-cream treat topped off a fun-filled morning! Thank you to all the volunteers that came out to support the school - YOU ROCK!!! A big shout out to all the staff and Principal Burrows for your support and allowing us to run the event! Last but not least - congratulations to all participating students! Each and everyone of you is a winner, regardless of how you scored! When Lion Joyce asked the students if they want us back next year, there was a resounding "Yes!" We are really pumped about being back to do it again next year!"
