The Parksville & District Chamber of Commerce welcomes Karen Stewart to the Board of Directors for 2026–2027.

Karen Stewart grew up in Calgary, Alberta close to the Rocky mountains, where she developed a love of skiing, hiking and water sports.

She attended the University of Calgary graduating in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts and in 1982 with a Bachelor of Laws. After taking a year off to travel, Karen articled at a large Calgary law firm, then was called to the Alberta Bar in 1984. Karen focused on civil litigation in the early years of her career. In 1987 Karen earned an LLM from the University of Cambridge. In 1990 she worked in the UN High Commission for Refugees office in Belize and drafted the Refugee Act for the Government of Belize. In 1991 Karen became a member of the Law Society of British Columbia and moved to Parksville, British Columbia where she has provided legal services to residents since 1992.

Over the years Karen has been active in the Parksville/Qualicum community as a director of the Oceanside Hospice Society, vice president of the Vancouver Island Opera Society and a member of the Parksville Chamber of Commerce.

The Parksville & District Chamber of Commerce welcomes Sherrin Western to the Board of Directors for 2026–2027.

Sherrin Western is the co-founder of Shervin Communications, a branding and marketing agency she has successfully operated with her business partner for more than 34 years.

Throughout her career, she has worked with businesses of all sizes, helping them strengthen their brands, improve customer relationships, and achieve sustainable growth.

Sherrin brings extensive board and volunteer experience, having served in leadership roles with organizations including Canadian Association of Professional Speakers (BC Chapter), Canadian Women in Communications, BC Food & Beverage, and the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance. She currently serves as a Director with BC Food & Beverage Association and is an active member of both Parksville and Nanaimo Chambers of Commerce and the Nanaimo and Oceanside Women’s Business Networks.

Known for her collaborative leadership style, strategic thinking, and commitment to
community, Sherrin is passionate about supporting local businesses and helping create a vibrant, prosperous future for the Parksville business community.

The Parksville & District Chamber of Commerce welcomes Dorcas Nganga to the Board of Directors for 2026–2027.

Dorcas Nganga is a governance and legal compliance professional with extensive cross-jurisdictional expertise, currently serving as Associate University Secretary at Vancouver Island University. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) with Honours and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with Distinction, bringing a strong blend of legal rigor and business acumen to every role she undertakes.

Dorcas is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a member of the Law Society of Kenya, and certified in Canadian Common Law by the Federation of Law Societies of Canada. She is an Affiliate Member of the Chartered Governance Institute of Canada (CGIC), having completed all four Level One modules of the International Qualifying Program toward Chartered designation.

Committed to community growth and economic development, Dorcas seeks to leverage her legal expertise and governance experience to contribute meaningfully to the Parksville Chamber of Commerce and the businesses it serves.
