πποΈ MY 60TH BIRTHDAY β AND A DAY I WON'T FORGET π¨π¦
After leaving our Walmart overnight stop in LΓ©vis, Quebec, Diane and I made our way to Edmundston, New Brunswick, for my birthday brunch at Pure & Simple.
After brunch we split up. Diane headed toward KOK Family Campground in Grand-Digue, while I headed out on what has become my annual birthday motorcycle ride.
I stopped in Grand Falls for gas and a Tim Hortons coffee while I charged my phone. That's where I met Zoey and her dad, Yves.
It actually started with a funny mistake. π
I noticed Zoey in line and could see that something appeared different with her right eye. I started talking to a woman standing nearby about Miles for Sight, gave her a sticker and said I was doing this ride for people like her daughter.
She looked at me and said, "That's not my daughter." π€¦ββοΈπ
I apologized, then asked Zoey who she was there with. She said her dad was outside. I looked through the window and saw a guy standing beside a Harley-Davidson.
So naturally, out I went. ποΈ
I introduced myself to Yves and explained the Miles for Sight journey and why I'm riding across Canada supporting CNIB and people living with vision loss.
His reaction really affected me.
Yves told me that people rarely notice Zoey or say anything about her vision. He was incredibly thankful that someone had taken the time to notice, talk to them and explain what this ride was about.
He said he would support Miles for Sight and help spread the word.
Moments like that remind me that this journey is about much more than kilometres on a motorcycle. β€οΈ
The birthday ride continued with a closed NAPA Auto Parts β where I left a poster under the door handle π β a quick stop at Bobby's Auto Body after a cool green car caught my attention, and then another unexpected roadside encounter.
I found a young man named Aiden pushing the motorcycle he'd just bought. I stopped, pulled out my tools and started helping. Brayden then pulled over with jumper cables. We managed to get the bike running, but it appeared to have a charging-system problem. Thankfully, Brayden could help Aiden get the bike somewhere safe.
They both got Miles for Sight stickers before we went our separate ways. π
Later I spotted a CARSTAR in Napan and stopped for a picture. Owner Colin happened to be pulling in at the same time and joined me for another Miles for Sight photo.
Finally, I headed to KOK Family Campground to meet back up with Diane.
The Pan America rolled past 19,000 km on this journey, and I couldn't think of a better way to spend my 60th birthday.
Meeting people. Helping when I can. Sharing the Miles for Sight story.
And riding for people like Zoey. β€οΈποΈ
