We were saddened to here of Dr. Bill Montevecchi's passing. While we didn't work with him directly we did work with his wonderful daughter and many other biologists who were mentored by or worked alongside him. We looked to him and others who worked under him for expertise relating to the importance of a healthy coastal-marine ecosystem for the many migratory seabrids that call Gros Morne and NL home-even if just for a little while.

Thank you Bill for your tireless dedication to help protect our natural environments that so many marine species and birds depend on here in Newfoundland. You will be missed but not forgotten!

We are deeply saddened to share the news that Dr. William Montevecchi departed from this world on the early morning of Saturday, July 11, 2026. Bills life followed the rhythm of the sea - his years were marked by the arrival of spring, the return of birds to the islands

🌊Our Aquatic Species at Risk Public Report is now live!

With the support of the Canada Nature Fund, AHOI was able to bring together researchers, students, community members, fish harvesters, and partners across western Newfoundland to better understand and protect aquatic species at risk.

From marine debris and shoreline cleanups to whale acoustics, zooplankton, ROV surveys, and community engagement - this report brings it all together.
