809 has completed day 2 of our Ottawa Trip. First thing we had a 4 star breakfast at Connaught's mess. Following that we headed out to spend the morning at the Aviation and Space Museum. Jeremy Hansen was the prime focus. After lunch, we headed out to the Diefenbunker where we learned about the cold war. The night is finishing up with a movie and bed. (Cadets are in the War Cabinet Room at the Diefenbunker).

809 Squadron is ending the training year with a trip to Ottawa. Day 1 is in the books. It was a long travel day, and a hot one at that. We took a break from driving and visited the National Air Force Museum at CFB Trenton. Big thanks to Emma at the museum who arranged our tour and scavenger hunt. This is our crew with the museum's prized Halifax bomber.

On Monday, May 4, cadets from 809 Newark RCACS had the opportunity to visit the Great Lakes Marine Security Operations Centre (GL-MSOC) in Niagara-On-The-Lake, where they were provided with a behind the scenes look at the collaborative work that contributes to Canada's border security and marine operations.

Staff from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Transport Canada, Canada Border Services Agency, The Canadian Coast Gard and the Royal Canadian Navy interacted with our cadets and showed them the tools used to complete their mission. Cadets participated in interactive stations featuring drones, marine vessels and police vehicles.

809 would like to than everyone at GL-MSOC for making this an unforgettable event.

Wishing all the Cadet Moms and SSC Moms a very Happy Mother's Day.

Fourteen air cadets from across Ontario gathered on 11 April for the Ontario Provincial Effective Speaking Competition, delivering an impressive display of confidence, poise, and public speaking skill. Participants travelled from communities spanning the province—from Thunder Bay and Timmins to Chatham-Kent and Renfrew—highlighting the breadth and diversity of the Air Cadet program.

The competition featured a panel of seasoned judges who commended the cadets for the high calibre of their speeches and the professionalism demonstrated throughout the event. Each participant brought thoughtful perspectives and strong delivery to the event, making for a highly competitive and engaging experience.

After careful deliberation, top honours were awarded to Sgt Vani Sahl (132 Spitfire Squadron), with WO2 Sadie Avram (779 Black Knight Squadron) and WO1 Erina He (110 Blackhawk Squadron)also earning recognition for their outstanding performances.

Organizers praised all participants for their dedication and preparation, noting that the level of competition continues to rise each year.

Congratulations to all cadets who took part, and best of luck to Sgt Sahl, who will go on to represent Ontario at the National Effective Speaking Competition.
