MEET RIVER
Music Niagara is absolutely delighted to welcome River Christie-White back to Arts Unbound 2026 – Celebrating Arts & Culture Beyond Limits! After joining us as a judge at last year's inaugural event, we are especially excited to welcome River to the stage this year as a featured performer.
An accomplished Indigenous artist from the Oneida Nation of the Thames, River is a talented musician, music producer, traditional Hoop Dancer and passionate advocate for people living with disabilities.
River's journey is one of extraordinary determination. As a young child with autism, River was non-verbal until approximately the age of eight and faced significant barriers within the education system. Through perseverance, creativity and a remarkable commitment to learning, River went on to become an honours university student, transforming personal challenges into opportunities to inspire others.
In 2014, River founded Hoops for Hope, a nonprofit initiative advocating for Indigenous people living with disabilities, particularly children and families who face barriers to accessing essential services and support.
In recognition of this important work, River received the 2017 Diversity, Race Relations and Inclusivity Award for Youth/Young Adults from the City of London.
Through traditional Indigenous Hoop Dancing, River brings stories of community, connection and belonging to life. The beautiful movement of the hoops carries powerful teachings about unity, acceptance and the importance of ensuring everyone has a place within our communities.
River is also a musician and producer with a passion for heavy and progressive metal, demonstrating an artistic range that crosses musical and cultural traditions.
For Arts Unbound 2026, River will share a very special performance combining traditional Hoop Dancing and poetry, inviting audiences to experience the beauty of Indigenous storytelling while reflecting on the importance of inclusion, identity and acceptance.
River's message reminds us that true inclusion is about more than recognizing our differences — it is about celebrating the unique gifts and voices each person brings to our world.
