The Earth Days Green Film Festival begins on April 2 at the NDYC. Our first of five screening days begins with a short student film made by Shaylynn Weinrauch titled "Where did the snow go?" followed up with "Snk'mip Dig Deeper" - a 60 minute documentary.

Description of the feature film from its website: "As an idealistic conservation group strives to restore a damaged wetland and tensions escalate with local off-road motorized users, an unexpected revelation uncovers the site's ancient Indigenous heritage, propelling them on a transformative journey of reconciliation with the Sinixt People and reshaping perspectives on land stewardship."

Films are being screened here at the NDYC every Thursday in April. Doors open at 6:30pm. Films are being screened at 7:00pm. There will be a Q&A for every film screening. It's a free festival and there's no need to register ahead of time. We will see you there!

Heads up NDYC community! 📢

On March 14, our drop-in hours will be adjusted for one day only. Normally drop-in runs 1pm–8pm, but this Saturday it will be 1pm–4pm.

We’re closing the skatepark early so a band can set up for a special evening event! 🎶

That night, Revelry will be playing all your favourite 1990s and 2000s cover tunes — the kind that make you want to get up and dance. 🕺💃

It’s a fundraiser event and everyone is welcome to attend. Entry is by donation, so bring your friends and come support the NDYC!

If you’re planning to come skate or scooter during drop-in, just note that the park won’t be available after 4pm that day. But you’re more than welcome to come back at 7pm for the music show and enjoy the night with us!

Thanks for your understanding and we hope to see you there! 🎸

The Nelson & District Youth Centre is excited to host our second annual Green Film Festival this April!

This grassroots festival is all about cozy community vibes. We transform the space into a laid-back pop-up theatre with couches, bean bags, and a welcoming atmosphere where people can gather, learn, and talk about the environment together.

🌎 What to expect:
• 5 nights of environmental films
• Every Thursday in April
• Doors open at 6:30 PM
• Films start at 7:00 PM
• Q&A sessions with guests after most screenings
• Environmental discussion and info before the films
• Concessions available for purchase

✨ Free to attend
✨ No registration required — just show up!

Come hang out, get comfy, watch inspiring films, and connect with others who care about our planet. Bring a friend and be part of the conversation! 🌱

Thank you Hannah for fixing our crash mat cover! You were quick, professional and nice. Now our kids can get back to playing with one of their favorite Youth Centre things.
Hannah fixes all kinds of outdoor apparel. Drop her a line if you need some heavy duty sewing :)repair

When the snow finally comes, we make the most of it! ❄️🛷

Our NDYC Walking Bus has temporarily been transformed into the “Sledding Bus” after this huge snowfall — and we are loving every minute of it!

Usually, our crew walks down from school to the Youth Centre for our after school program. But when the snow piles up, we grab our sleds and glide our way down instead! Between South Nelson Elementary and the Youth Centre, there are so many fun (and safe!) little hills that make the trip extra exciting.

After such a long snow drought, it feels amazing to finally play in fresh snow, laugh together, and turn our daily routine into a winter adventure. ☃️✨

Nothing beats fresh air, rosy cheeks, and a sled ride with friends. Winter magic is officially in session!

🎶 Save the Date! 🎶

The NDYC is hosting a Fundraiser Night on March 14 from 7–9PM — and you won’t want to miss it!

Enjoy a live music performance by Luke (one of our full-time staff) and his band, Revelry 🎸 Admission is by donation, and concession items will be available for purchase.

All funds raised will go directly back to supporting the NDYC and the youth we serve.

More details coming soon — but for now, mark your calendars and plan to join us for a great night of music and community! 💙

At Nelson and District Youth Centre, we know that kids need both structure and space to just be kids.
That’s why “free time” is such an important part of our after school program, Adventure Friends.
While our program offers a well-structured daily setup where youth can choose which programming room they’d like to join, we also make sure there’s plenty of open time for creativity, movement, and connection.
During free time, kids can:
🏒 Play active games like hockey and soccer
🛹 Ride in our skate park
🏓 Challenge friends to foosball or ping pong
🎨 Dive into arts and crafts
🧸 Explore our toys and games
✨ Use their imagination to create their own games
🛋️ Relax and hang out with friends on our couches or bleachers
This balance helps youth build independence, friendships, creativity, and confidence — all in a safe, welcoming space.
Adventure Friends is just $25 per regular school day, and families can sign up at any point during the school year.
We’d love to welcome your family to the adventure!

Meet our Walking Bus 🚌💚
As part of our after-school program, NDYC staff walk to local schools, pick the kids up, and stroll back down to the Youth Centre together.

It’s a simple idea with big benefits: time to chat and connect, fresh air and movement after a long school day, and a smooth, stress-free transition from school to NDYC. Parents can pick their kids up anytime before 5:30pm, knowing they’re already settled, supported, and having fun.

Just one of the many ways the Nelson & District Youth Centre helps make our city feel safe, connected, and family-oriented 💫
